PM Modi Touches BJP Candidate's Feet Three Times on Stage, Sparks Discussion

New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi sparked widespread discussion during an election rally when he unexpectedly touched the feet of BJP candidate Ravindra Singh Negi three times on stage. The event, which took place as part of Modi’s campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, has since gone viral on social media.

As Modi stepped onto the stage, Ravindra Singh Negi, the BJP candidate from Patparganj, showed his respect by touching the Prime Minister’s feet. In a surprising move, Modi reciprocated the gesture, bowing down and touching Negi’s feet three times. The moment left political leaders and spectators astonished, with even Negi appearing visibly taken aback by the unexpected gesture.

Who is Ravindra Singh Negi?

Negi is a seasoned politician who previously contested against Aam Aadmi Party’s senior leader Manish Sisodia in the last Delhi Assembly elections, giving him a tough fight in the Patparganj constituency. Despite the strong competition, Sisodia narrowly secured victory. This election season, however, Sisodia has switched to the Jungpura constituency, while AAP has fielded educationist Avadh Ojha in Patparganj. Negi is now seen as a formidable contender against Ojha.

Modi’s Campaign Message

During his speech, PM Modi took aim at the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress, declaring, “The people of Delhi trust the BJP’s commitment and Modi’s guarantee. I assure you that no effort will be spared in the development of this region.”

Ravindra Singh Negi’s Political Background

Hailing from Uttarakhand, Ravindra Singh Negi currently serves as a member of the Delhi Municipal Corporation. He is the councilor from Vinod Nagar Ward-198, which falls under the Patparganj Assembly constituency. Negi has built a strong reputation in the area, gaining national recognition after his close contest with Sisodia in the previous elections. He also maintains deep ties with the RSS and has held significant roles within the organization as an expansion officer.

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the development of seven high-speed rail corridors while presenting the Union Budget 2026–27. The project aims to strengthen connectivity between major cities and promote faster, environmentally sustainable passenger transport.

The proposed corridors include Mumbai–Pune, Pune–Hyderabad, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, Hyderabad–Chennai, Chennai–Bengaluru, Delhi–Varanasi, and Varanasi–Siliguri. These routes are expected to connect financial centres, technology hubs, manufacturing regions, and emerging urban areas across the country.

Sitharaman described the corridors as “growth connectors” that will reduce travel time, lower carbon emissions, and support balanced regional development.

The government believes the new rail network will improve inter-city travel and create economic opportunities in the regions along the routes. The initiative is part of a broader infrastructure push focused on rapidly growing cities and long-term economic expansion.
