Moodbidri: A serious road accident took place on Thursday night at Bannadka on the under-construction national highway connecting Moodbidri and Karkala.

The bike ridden by Suraj Anchan collided with a car that was coming from the Karkala side. Both Suraj and the pillion rider were severely injured in the crash.

The pillion rider, Shravan S. Suvarna (17), died despite treatment. He was a resident of Marpadi village and a second-year Pre-University College student. He was the son of Sadananda Suvarna and Rajashree.

Suraj Anchan suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. Police are likely to investigate the incident.

Moodbidri: A goods lorry from another state crashed into a wall after the driver reportedly followed a wrong route suggested by Google Maps. The incident took place early Wednesday morning at the steep bend in Kadandale hill, under the Paladka Gram Panchayat limits.

According to police, the lorry was carrying goods to a paper mill under the Moodbidri Town Municipality area. The driver was traveling around 2 a.m. and relied on Google Maps for directions. As the route shown was a newly built and confusing road, the driver lost his way.

When he reached the steep curve at Kadandale, the driver became confused and lost control of the vehicle. The lorry then rammed into a roadside wall. Fortunately, there were no major injuries reported.

The driver told police that he was heading towards the paper mill and had followed Google Maps, which led him onto the wrong route and into the difficult terrain.

Moodbidri Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

Moodabidri: Moodabidri Police arrested three men for illegally transporting cattle. The court has remanded all three accused to judicial custody. The police acted based on specific information.

A Tata Ace container vehicle was transporting three cattle illegally from the Hosmar–Nellikaru side in Moodabidri taluk. The police stopped the vehicle and took the accused into custody. The arrested men are Mansoor Adyapady, Mohammed Ashfaq, and Abdul Mohammed Nisham. A case has been registered at the Moodabidri Police Station.

Police said the case has been booked under organised crime. After the arrest, the accused were produced before the court. The court later sent them to judicial custody.

Among the accused, Mansoor Adyapady has a history of multiple cases. This is his 30th case, with 29 earlier cases registered in various police stations. For Mohammed Ashfaq, this is the second case, with one earlier case under the cow slaughter prohibition law in Ullal. For Abdul Mohammed Nisham, this is the first case registered against him, police said.
