Variety recognized him as one of the top 10 artisans to watch in costume design, and he received the Variety Artisan Award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. Designing for ‘Wicked’ was no simple task; Tazewell crafted over a thousand costumes, featuring standout pieces like Glinda’s enchanting bubble dress and Elphaba’s iconic black gown. His design transcended mere aesthetics, as the black dress poignantly represented Elphaba’s sorrow over her mother’s death.

In creating the costumes, Tazewell drew inspiration from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939), skillfully balancing fantasy with rich historical influences. He faced the challenge of ensuring intricate details remained visible in dark fabrics, making sure Elphaba’s look was captivating on screen.
