Partho Ghosh, Director of ‘100 Days’ and ‘Agni Sakshi’, Dies at 75
Starting his Bollywood journey as an assistant director in 1985, Partho Ghosh gradually established himself in the thriller and drama genres. His major breakthrough came in 1991 with the suspense thriller ‘100 Days,’ featuring Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit. The film, centered on a woman with extrasensory perception, was a Hindi adaptation of the Tamil film ‘Nooravathu Naal,’ which itself was inspired by Italian cinema.
In 1992, he directed ‘Geet,’ starring Divya Bharti and Avinash Wadhawan. However, it was his 1993 film ‘Dalaal,’ featuring Mithun Chakraborty and Ayesha Jhulka, that truly solidified his reputation. Based on a short story by Kaushal Bharati, the film became one of the year’s highest earners, recognized for its blend of drama, action, and emotional intensity.
Three years later, Ghosh found success again with ‘Agni Sakshi’ (1996), a gripping psychological drama that showcased the talents of Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, and Manisha Koirala. The film was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, praised for its powerful performances and engaging narrative.
Over his career, Ghosh directed more than 15 films across various genres, from suspense to romance. His other notable works include ‘Tisra Kaun,’ a Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam hit ‘No. 20 Madras Mail,’ and ‘Ek Second… Jo Zindagi Badal De?’ (2010), which explored the unpredictability of life.
His final film, ‘Mausam Ikrar Ke Do Pal Pyaar Ke,’ was released in 2018. This romantic drama marked his return after a brief hiatus and featured Mukesh J Bharti, Madalsa Sharma, and Avinash Wadhawan.
