Over 200 Flights Delayed, Train Services Disrupted in Delhi Due to Dense Fog Reducing Visibility to Zero

New Delhi:
A thick layer of dense fog has significantly impacted daily life across North India, leading to substantial disruptions in both flight and train services. In Delhi, over 200 flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport have been delayed as visibility has dropped to zero. This situation marks the fifth consecutive day of severe cold in the city, with temperatures plummeting to 9.6 degrees Celsius on Friday morning.
Widespread Effects of Dense Fog
The dense fog has resulted in zero visibility in various regions of North India, affecting major cities such as Delhi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Amritsar, and Guwahati. In Delhi alone, 202 flights have been delayed due to the thick fog, causing considerable interruptions to air travel. Airport officials have warned that flights not equipped to meet CAT III standards may experience additional delays. Over the last 24 hours, Delhi has recorded unusually low temperatures, with a high of 16°C and a low of 7.6°C. The current temperature of 9.6°C on Friday morning indicates the persistence of the cold wave. Visibility at Delhi’s airports was nearly nonexistent, with Palam airport reporting zero-meter visibility and Safdarjung Airport only 50 meters. Additionally, the city’s Air Quality Index has deteriorated to the “Very Poor” category, with a reading of 309 at Lodhi Road.
Disruptions in Air and Train Services
Numerous airlines, including SpiceJet, Indigo, and Air India, have encountered flight delays, with arrival flights experiencing an average delay of six minutes and departure flights delayed by 47 minutes. Both SpiceJet and Indigo have issued travel advisories, advising passengers to anticipate possible delays and cancellations on routes to and from Amritsar, Guwahati, Delhi, Lucknow, and Bengaluru. Train services originating from Delhi have also been significantly impacted, with at least 24 trains running late. The Ayodhya Express was delayed by four hours, the Gorakhdham Express by over two hours, along with delays affecting both the Bihar Kranti Express and Shram Shakti.

Foreign Artist Sparks Outrage After Painting Elephant Pink for Jaipur Photoshoot
Jaipur: A foreign art photographer, Julia Buruleva, is facing strong criticism after images of a pink-painted elephant from a photoshoot in Jaipur went viral on social media.

The photos show a model posing on an elephant that was fully painted in bright pink. The model was also partly painted in the same colour. The shoot took place at an abandoned temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
Buruleva said she chose Jaipur because elephants are an important cultural symbol of Rajasthan. She explained that she spent weeks planning the shoot and took permissions before using the elephant. She also said that only organic and locally made colours were used, and that the animal was not harmed.

However, many people online were not convinced. Animal lovers and social media users strongly criticised the photoshoot. They called it “animal abuse” and “exploitation.”
Many users said that even safe colours should not be used on animals for artistic purposes. They pointed out that elephants have sensitive skin and should not be treated as props. Some people also said the artist misunderstood Indian culture and the importance of elephants in it.
Several users suggested that the photographer could have used digital tools or artificial intelligence instead of involving a real animal.
