The floodlight malfunction that interrupted the India-England second ODI on Sunday at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack for approximately 35 minutes has raised significant concerns within the cricket community. In response, the Odisha government has issued a show cause notice to the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), requesting a report on the events leading to the floodlight failure within ten days.

According to the notice sent to OCA on Monday, “The Odisha Cricket Association is required to provide a comprehensive explanation regarding the cause of this disruption. Furthermore, it must identify those responsible for this oversight and detail the steps being implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future. The report should be submitted within ten days of receiving this communication.”

This floodlight incident has highlighted the significant deficiencies in the preparedness of the 69-year-old Barabati Stadium to host international matches, putting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a compromising position ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy.
