Shivamogga: An eight-year-old boy died after being attacked by wasps in Shivamogga.

The incident happened when a swarm of wasps attacked the boy and his father near their house. A wasp nest was reportedly found on a banana plant behind their house.

The deceased boy was identified as eight-year-old Nischith. He was a Class 2 student. His father, Venkatesh, was also attacked in the incident.

Both father and son were rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, Nischith died while undergoing treatment.

The boy’s death has left his family in deep shock. The parents’ cries over the loss of their son were heartbreaking.

Kochi: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her former lover at his house in North Paravur, Kerala.

The incident occurred after the woman decided to marry another man.

The deceased has been identified as Suramya, 24. Police arrested her former lover, Shibin, 34, from Thuruthipuram in connection with the murder.

According to the preliminary investigation, Suramya and Shibin had been in a relationship since their college days in 2018.

However, the couple had developed differences and had stopped meeting each other regularly over the past four months. They remained in contact mainly through Instagram.

Meanwhile, Suramya became close to another young man and decided to marry him. She had also reportedly told Shibin that she did not want to continue their relationship.

Shibin was allegedly angry over her decision. He later called Suramya to his house, saying that they should discuss their differences and resolve the issue.

He reportedly took her to his house on his bike. The two were talking inside a room at around 10 a.m. when an argument broke out. During the argument, Shibin allegedly went to the kitchen, brought a knife and attacked Suramya.

Hearing her screams, Shibin’s parents reportedly knocked on the door. However, he did not open it immediately.

He opened the door around 10 minutes later.

Suramya was found seriously injured and was rushed to a hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries despite treatment.

After the incident, Shibin went to the police station and surrendered. Police arrested him and have launched a detailed investigation into the case.

Bantwal: Traditional Yakshagana Bhagavatha Durgaparameshwari Kukkila has been selected for this year’s Yakshasiri Award by the Karnataka Yakshagana Academy.

Durgaparameshwari Kukkila is a resident of Kukkila in Kodapadavu, Bantwal taluk. She has been actively involved in Yakshagana for the past 39 years.

The 55-year-old is a hobbyist female Bhagavatha who follows the traditional style of Yakshagana. She is the granddaughter of renowned Bhagavatha Mambady Narayana Bhagavatha. She is also the wife of progressive farmer Purandara Vittala Kukkila.

Durgaparameshwari was born on May 30, 1971, at Keremoola in Bayaru village of Kasaragod district. She was born to Krishna Bhat and Draupadi Amma.

Her maternal grandfather, Mambady Narayana Bhagavatha, was a renowned Yakshagana artist. Her maternal uncle, Yakshagana teacher Mambady Subrahmanya Bhat, is also a well-known teacher of the Himmela tradition.

She developed an interest in Yakshagana during her childhood. Her brothers were learning Himmela from their grandfather, Mambady Narayana Bhagavatha, at home. This gave her an opportunity to learn Yakshagana.

She also learned Purvaranga lessons from her elder brother Narayana Bhat. In 1987, she performed as a Bhagavatha on stage for the first time in a Bayalata.

Since 1993, she has been an All India Radio artist. She has performed as a Bhagavatha in several Yakshagana programmes organised by various groups and institutions.

She has also participated in hobby Yakshagana performances, Talemaddale programmes, and Yakshagana events involving women and children. She has performed Yakshagana on Doordarshan Bengaluru as well.

Durgaparameshwari Kukkila expressed happiness over being selected for the Yakshasiri Award.
