Neha Dhupia Supports Deepika Padukone’s Call for Fair Working Hours
Reports indicate that Deepika withdrew from the project after requesting an eight-hour workday—a demand that, while commonplace in many fields, remains rare in Bollywood’s rigorous schedule.
On Instagram Stories, Neha Dhupia addressed this issue, highlighting the significant challenges faced by working mothers in the industry. She emphasized that while conversations about work-life balance often arise, they seldom lead to tangible change, particularly for women who are balancing careers and motherhood.
“For work-life balance to evolve beyond mere talk, new mothers need practical support and understanding. Instead, we often face shaming or are pushed aside,” Neha stated. Drawing from her own experiences as a working mom, she expressed her full support for Deepika’s call for fair working hours.
Deepika’s exit has instigated a broader conversation about outdated work practices, especially regarding women and mothers. Several celebrities have lent their voices to this important discussion in recent weeks.
Actor Ajay Devgn, during the trailer launch of Kajol’s film ‘Maa’ in May, similarly endorsed the idea of eight-hour work shifts. Although he didn’t mention Deepika directly, his sentiments echoed her reported requests. “Most honest filmmakers will not have issues with this,” Devgn remarked. He added that many in the industry are beginning to understand the need for a more flexible approach as it pertains to women juggling family and work.
Originally, Deepika was set to star opposite Prabhas in ‘Spirit,’ a highly anticipated project produced by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures. Following her exit, actress Triptii Dimri, recognized for her role in ‘Animal,’ will take on the female lead.
The dialogue sparked by Deepika’s departure and the backing from Neha Dhupia and Ajay Devgn signifies a crucial shift toward modernizing work culture in the film industry. As industry professionals increasingly question the norm of demanding hours and rigid schedules, particularly for women with family obligations, this conversation continues to gain momentum.
