Namit Malhotra Secures 8th Oscar as DNEG Triumphs at the 97th Academy Awards

Namit Malhotra, the CEO of DNEG and the founder of Prime Focus, has achieved another remarkable milestone as his company claimed its eighth Oscar at the 97th Academy Awards. This prestigious honor was awarded for DNEG’s exceptional visual effects in ‘Dune: Part Two’, which also represents India’s seventh Academy Award victory.

Thrilled about the achievement, Malhotra called it a significant milestone in the visual effects industry. “Winning seven Oscars over the past decade is an extraordinary feat. I doubt any other company can match this record. It reflects the tremendous dedication of our artists, technologists, and filmmakers who have supported us,” he shared with ANI.

DNEG’s award-winning journey began with ‘Inception’ in 2011 and has featured iconic films like ‘Interstellar’, ‘Blade Runner 2049’, ‘Tenet’, and ‘Dune: Part One’.

When asked about the key to the company’s ongoing success, Malhotra emphasized DNEG’s steadfast dedication to the director’s vision. “For us, the director is the captain of the ship. Our role is to bring their imagination to life by grasping every nuance of their vision. The best visual effects are those that integrate seamlessly into the narrative rather than simply dazzling the audience on screen.”

The Oscar was presented to DNEG VFX Supervisors Stephen James and Rhys Salcombe, along with Production VFX Supervisor Paul Lambert and Special Effects Supervisor Gerd Nefzer.

Currently, Malhotra is preparing to produce ‘Ramayana’, featuring Ranbir Kapoor.
