Munmun Dutta Celebrates Holi with Bengali Cuisine and Family Spirit

Published

on

Television’s cherished Babita Ji, played by Munmun Dutta in ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’, is celebrated not just for her screen presence but also for her passionate love for Bengali cuisine. Holi, the vibrant festival of colors, holds a special significance for Munmun—not just because of the beautiful hues, but also for the delicious array of food associated with it. To her, no celebration is complete without savoring classic Bengali dishes.

As she reminisced about her childhood, Munmun Dutta fondly shared memories of her mother preparing traditional Holi dishes. “My mom would often make Luchi, Aloor Dum, and Chholar Dal, followed by sweets and Mishti Doi,” she recalled. For those unfamiliar, Luchi is a fluffy, deep-fried flatbread that pairs beautifully with Aloo Dum, a spicy potato curry, and Chholar Dal, a nourishing lentil dish. “I’ve always embraced my Bengali heritage when it comes to food,” she said with a smile. Munmun has continued this tradition, albeit with a personal twist. Nowadays, she enjoys taking charge in the kitchen to whip up something special for her mother or any guests who visit during festive celebrations.

“Now I’ve switched the roles. I love cooking and hosting on special occasions like this,” she mentioned. However, while she enjoys the festive flavors, Munmun’s professional obligations sometimes interfere with traditional celebrations. For the past 16 years, she’s primarily celebrated Holi on set, filming elaborate scenes for her show. “At times, the shoots can span two to three days, depending on the sequences,” she disclosed.

This is why, on the actual day of Holi, she prefers to relax at home. “It’s my day off, so I like to take it easy and later catch up with friends over tea or dinner,” Munmun explained. Though the vibrant colors may fade, the richness of her Bengali heritage continues to infuse her celebrations with happiness.
