Mumbai Open 2025: Maaya’s Journey Concludes as Jil Teichmann Advances to Final

Fifteen-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran’s impressive journey at the Mumbai Open WTA 125 Series came to a halt in the semifinals on Saturday. She faced Jil Teichmann and lost in straight sets with scores of 3-6, 1-6 at the Cricket Club of India.

Maaya, coached by R. Manoj Kumar, entered the tournament as a wildcard and reached the semifinals in her debut senior competition. In doubles action, India’s Prarthana Thambore, partnering with Dutch player Arianne Hartono, is set to compete in the final on Sunday.


Teichmann established control early in the first set by winning the first four games. Although Maaya fought back by claiming the next two games, the experienced Swiss player closed out the first set at 6-3. The second set mirrored the first, with Teichmann again sprinting ahead by winning the first four games. Maaya managed to secure the fifth game, but ultimately Teichmann showcased her strong returns and clinched the set 6-1, securing her spot in the final.

In the other singles semifinal, Thailand’s eighth seed Mananchaya Sawangkaew delivered a stunning performance against second-seeded Rebecca Marino of Canada, securing a decisive victory with a score of 6-2, 6-2. Sawangkaew dominated the match from the outset, breaking Marino’s serve early in the first set and maintaining pressure throughout the game with aggressive tactics and strong serving, including three aces.

Continuing her momentum into the second set, Sawangkaew’s swift footwork and relentless pressure allowed her to capitalize on Marino’s mistakes. With two more service breaks, she wrapped up the set and match 6-2, closing the door on any potential comeback from Marino.

Earlier, the second-seeded Russian duo of Amina Anshba and Elena Pridankina rallied from a set down to secure their place in the doubles final. They triumphed over the fourth-seeded Italian pair of Nicole Fossa Huergo and Camilla Rosatello with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 10-3. The Italians started strong, jumping to a 4-0 lead in the first set, but the Russians rebounded in the second set, breaking serve three times to level the match at one set each. In the decisive tiebreak, Anshba and Pridankina proved their mettle, dominating 10-3 and showcasing excellent teamwork. They will face Prarthana Thambore in the doubles final.

 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup: Pakistan Knocked Out, New Zealand Enter Semifinals

Mumbai: Pakistan have been knocked out of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup despite securing a narrow win over Sri Lanka. With this result, New Zealand advanced to the semifinals from the Super Eight group.

In the Super Eight match held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan batted first and posted a strong total of 212 for 8 in 20 overs.

Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman gave Pakistan a flying start. They added 176 runs for the opening wicket. This became the highest opening partnership in the tournament’s history.

Farhan scored a brilliant 100 off 60 balls. He became the first player to score two centuries in a single edition of the tournament. Fakhar Zaman supported him well with 84 runs off 42 balls.

Chasing a target of 213 runs, Sri Lanka fought hard but fell short by 5 runs.

Sri Lanka had a poor start. Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for just 3 runs. Kamil Mishara scored 26 runs, while Charith Asalanka added 25 runs to steady the innings.

Later, Pawan Rathnayake and Dasun Shanaka played attacking knocks. Rathnayake scored 58 runs off 37 balls with four fours and three sixes. Shanaka smashed 76 runs off 31 balls, including eight sixes and two fours. Their partnership raised hopes of a Sri Lankan victory.

However, Pakistan bowlers held their nerve in the final overs. Tight bowling at the death ensured a narrow five-run win for Pakistan.

Despite the victory, Pakistan were eliminated from the tournament due to net run rate. As a result, New Zealand secured the second semifinal spot from the group.

Sports : West Indies cricket team defeated Zimbabwe national cricket team by 107 runs in a Super 8 Group 1 match.

Batting first, West Indies scored 254 for 6. Shimron Hetmyer led the charge with 85 runs off 34 balls. Rovman Powell added 59 runs. Their 122-run partnership helped the team post a big total.

Chasing 255, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 147 runs. Brad Evans scored 43 runs, but it was not enough.
