On Thursday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav presented a cheque for ₹1 crore to the family of the late Sub Inspector Ramcharan Gautam, who lost his life in the line of duty. This amount was granted under the personal accident insurance scheme available to police personnel through the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Police Salary Package Scheme, according to state government officials.

Additionally, the Chief Minister directed Director General of Police (DGP) Kailash Makwana to ensure that a qualified family member of the slain officer is offered a government position.

While handing over the cheque to Mr. Gautam’s widow, Mrs. Pushpa, CM Yadav expressed that the state government has recognized Gautam as a martyr and has sanctioned financial assistance of ₹1 crore for his dependents. Dr. Yadav reassured that the government would extend its full support to the family of Ramcharan Gautam.

Sub Inspector Ramcharan Gautam, a member of the Special Armed Force (SAF) of the Madhya Pradesh Police, tragically lost his life during a violent encounter with a group of tribals in the Mauganj district on the evening of March 15. The incident occurred while a police team and district administration officials were attempting to rescue an individual who had been abducted by members of the Kol community, who later faced accusations of murdering him.

The alleged victim, Sunny Dwivedi, was believed by the tribals to have intentionally caused harm to one of their own, Ashok Kumar, a few months prior, disguising it as an accident. When law enforcement arrived in Gadra village in response to the disturbance, they were met with aggression from the Kol tribes, leading to the tragic death of SI Ramcharan Gautam.
