More than 50,000 Families Reunited at Prayagraj Mahakumbh
Amidst the throngs of worshippers, many found themselves separated from their families. However, due to the proactive measures taken by the Yogi government and their dedicated initiatives, a remarkable 54,357 individuals were reunited with their loved ones. Notably, a significant portion of those reunited were women. The police played an essential role in reconnecting devotees from various states across India and neighboring Nepal with their families.
The Uttar Pradesh government undertook numerous innovative strategies to ensure safety and facilitate a smooth event. A standout feature was the creation of the Digital Khoya Paya Kendra, which enabled the swift reuniting of over 35,000 separated devotees with their families. During the Amrit Snan Parv on Makar Sankranti (January 13-15), 598 individuals were reunited; 8,725 people were brought back together during Mauni Amavasya (January 28-30), and 864 devotees during Basant Panchami (February 2-4). In total, 24,896 individuals who had lost their way during other bathing festivals and regular days were also reunited, culminating in a total of 35,083 successful reunions by the end of the Mahakumbh.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, ten Digital Khoya Paya Kendra were established across the Mahakumbh region, equipped with cutting-edge AI facial recognition technology, machine learning capabilities, and multilingual support.
Non-governmental organizations also made significant contributions, with Bharat Seva Kendra and Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Smriti Samiti spearheading efforts to assist those separated. Umesh Chandra Tiwari, Director of Bharat Seva Kendra’s Bhule Bhatke Camp, reported that their organization successfully reunited 19,274 lost individuals with their families by the event’s conclusion, including all 18 missing children.
The ‘Khoya Paaya’ Centres proved highly effective in reuniting individuals with their families and monitored them until they were safely returned. On the last day of Mahakumbh, heartwarming reunions took place, including Krishna Devi from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and Jangi Devi from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, who were restored to their families, along with Jagjannan Dharu from Banke district, Nepal, and Bindi, wife of Sitaram Shah from Saptari, Nepal.
The successful reunifications at these centres inspired deep gratitude among the devotees, who thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the thoughtful measures taken during the event. Through dedicated planning and compassionate execution, Mahakumbh 2025 emerged as a beacon of spiritual devotion, setting a noteworthy standard for effective crowd management and humanitarian care.
