Puttur: A 20-year-old B.Com student died after he reportedly became breathless while working out at a gym in Puttur on September 5.

The deceased has been identified as Shramik, son of Ramesh Rai, a resident of Kunjurpanja in Aryapu village.

Shramik was a final-year B.Com student at a private college in Neharunagar, Puttur.

According to reports, he was exercising at a gym in Bolwar when he suddenly felt breathless and became unwell.

He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Bolwar for treatment.

However, he died before reaching the hospital. Doctors examined him and confirmed his death.

A heart attack is suspected to be the cause of the death. Further details are awaited.

Bhopal: A 21-year-old youth from Madhya Pradesh has gained international attention for his efforts to clean a polluted river.

Surendra Singh Chaudhary, popularly known online as Bittu Tabahi, began cleaning the Ajnar River in Rajgarh district on January 26, 2026.

The river was filled with plastic waste, algae, sludge and other garbage. Bittu started the cleanup with a few friends but later continued the work largely on his own.

He spent his own savings on cleaning materials and manually removed tonnes of waste. Despite facing health problems and encounters with snakes, he continued his efforts.

Videos of his work went viral on social media. The initiative caught the attention of Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of Dutch environmental organisation The Ocean Cleanup.

After seeing a post about Bittu’s work on X, Slat invited him to join the organisation, writing, “Come work for us.”

Bittu, a second-year student from Biaora, has also received praise from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The Chief Minister recently met him at the CM House and assured him of government support.

Bittu’s journey has now become an inspiring example of how one person’s initiative can create a wider impact.

Tirunelveli: A panchayat president in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district died after he was allegedly attacked with a brick during a dispute over drinking water supply.

The deceased has been identified as Maharajan, the president of a panchayat council.

Police have arrested the accused, Essaki Pandiyan, in connection with the incident.

According to police, the area had been facing irregular drinking water supply for the past week.

Essaki Pandiyan reportedly raised the issue with Maharajan.

An argument broke out between the two over the water shortage. The situation soon turned violent.  Essaki Pandiyan allegedly attacked Maharajan with a brick.

Maharajan suffered serious injuries in the attack. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. The incident has also triggered a political controversy in Tamil Nadu.

DMK MP Kanimozhi expressed concern over the state’s law and order situation.

She demanded a detailed investigation and strict action against those responsible for Maharajan’s death.
