Manipur Legislators Meet Governor Amid Ongoing Displacement Crisis
They voiced optimism that under Governor Bhalla’s leadership, Manipur would soon achieve peace and return to normalcy.
In a related development, representatives from the Churachandpur Meitei United Committee also met with Governor Bhalla the same day, presenting a memorandum that detailed the urgent situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Churachandpur district.
It is important to note that following a brief period of calm, violence erupted again in parts of Manipur after Home Minister Amit Shah instructed the administration to restore normal road functions in the state. Since May 2023, Manipur has been struggling with communal violence and ethnic tensions stemming from clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. This unrest has resulted in widespread displacement, with thousands seeking shelter in relief camps. The conflict arises from a complicated mix of ethnic identity, land rights, and political representation, plunging the state into a humanitarian crisis.
