Mangaluru: Kankanady Town police have arrested two youths near Kedekar Cross for the illegal possession of a country-made pistol and six live rounds of ammunition within the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate limits.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Tausif Ahmad and Abdul Khader.

According to a complaint filed by PSI Shiv Kumar K, he and his team were conducting patrol duties around 3:30 PM on Monday, traveling from Jeppinamogaru Junction towards Kallapu. While passing near Kedekar Cross, they spotted the duo standing suspiciously by the roadside.

Upon seeing the police vehicle, the two attempted to flee in the direction of the Netravathi riverbank. However, the officers managed to catch them with the help of additional personnel.

Upon questioning, it was discovered that Tausif Ahmad was carrying an unlicensed pistol and six live bullets. Further investigation traced the origin of the weapon and ammunition to a deceased individual named Ajiz, who was a resident of Kuthar.

It was revealed that Abdul Khader had accompanied Ajiz on a trip to Agra, during which Ajiz received the pistol and bullets from an unknown source and later showed them to Khader. In March 2025, while returning by train to Mangaluru, Ajiz suffered a fatal heart attack near Kumta in Uttara Kannada district.

Following his death, the weapon was collected by Ajiz’s relative, Hameed, from Abdul Khader. Hameed kept it for a few days before handing it over to Tausif Ahmad, a resident of Bolar.

On July 31, Tausif was reportedly instructed to deliver the pistol and ammunition back to Hameed at Kedekar Cross. It was while they were waiting at the location that the police, during routine patrol, spotted and apprehended them.
