Mangaluru: Petrol Pump Supervisor Dupes ₹58.85 Lakh Using Personal QR Code

Mangaluru: A case has been registered against a petrol pump supervisor for allegedly defrauding ₹58.85 lakh by replacing the pump’s QR code with his personal bank account QR code.

The accused, Mohandas, who worked as a supervisor at the Reliance Outlet Fuel Pump in Bangra Kuloor, was entrusted with handling the financial transactions of the petrol pump.

According to the complaint lodged by the pump’s manager at the City South Police Station, the fraud occurred between March 1, 2023, and July 31, 2023. Mohandas allegedly replaced the pump’s official QR code with his own personal QR code and deceived customers into believing they were transferring money to the pump’s account. Instead, ₹58,85,333 was diverted into his personal account during this period.

The police are investigating the matter further.

Fraud Case Registered for Cheating in the Name of a CRPF Soldier

Mangalore: A case has been registered at Pandeshwar Police Station after a man was cheated of 1,47,500 RS by a fraudster posing as a CRPF soldier selling furniture.

The victim, who fell for the scam under the pretense of furniture sale, stated:
“On the night of February 18, a person calling himself Santosh Kumar contacted me, claiming he had been transferred to Jammu & Kashmir and needed to sell his home furniture. Believing his words, I made payments in installments to the various mobile numbers he provided, totaling 1,47,500.”

Later, on February 20, another person named Mukesh called the victim, asking for an account statement. Shortly after, the fraudster’s phone was switched off.

The police have registered the case and are currently investigating the matter.

Mangaluru: Six Arrested for Attempting to Sell Drugs

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Port Police have arrested six individuals for allegedly attempting to sell MDMA, a banned narcotic substance. The police also seized property worth several lakhs of rupees.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Dhanish D. Kanchan (19) from Pandeshwar Greenland Layout, Prithvik (18) from Pandeshwar, Faiz Ambar (23) from Bavutagudde, Tushan D. Suvarna (19) from Jalligudde, Rajin (21) from Falnir, and Afghan (20) from Sturrock Road, Falnir.

Based on a tip-off, the police received information that six youths were selling drugs from a car and a two-wheeler on a public road near Falnir in Mangaluru on February 8 at 5:30 PM. Acting on this, the Port Police conducted a raid.

During the operation, the accused attempted to flee, but the police managed to intercept their vehicles and arrest them. Authorities confiscated 20.52 grams of MDMA, valuables worth several lakhs, a car, and a scooter used in the crime.

Fire Breaks Out in Godown Near Jeppinamogaru, Mangaluru; Significant Damage Reported

Mangaluru: A major fire broke out in a godown located beside National Highway 66 near Jeppinamogaru Yekkuru at approximately 11:30 pm on Sunday. The fire caused extensive damage to the godown and also affected nearby houses.

The godown, owned by Sadashiva Shetty, was filled with various used items, including second-hand furniture, most of which were destroyed in the fire. The adjacent building also suffered minor damage due to the flames.

Fire brigade teams from Pandeshwar, Kadri, Bantwal, and Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) quickly arrived at the scene to control the fire. The firefighting operations, which began late Sunday night, continued through the early morning hours, with the fire being fully doused by 5 am on Monday.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the full extent of the damage. The incident has raised concerns over safety measures in the area, and officials are working to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
