Mangaluru: The Mangaluru International Airport has enhanced its fire safety capabilities with the addition of two state-of-the-art firefighting vehicles imported from Austria.

The new vehicles, manufactured by the renowned Austrian company Rosenbauer, are among the most advanced firefighting units used at major airports worldwide. Their induction significantly strengthens the airport’s safety infrastructure and operational excellence.

Each vehicle can carry up to 12,500 litres of water and 1,500 litres of foam, marking an improvement from the previous 2009 models, which had a capacity of 10,000 litres of water and 1,300 litres of foam.

Equipped with battery-operated systems and an auto-ejector mechanism, these vehicles can discharge water up to 90 metres with full efficiency, while greatly reducing diesel consumption. The vehicles also feature seating for four personnel and can reach a top speed of 120 km/h, ensuring rapid emergency response.

According to an official release, the addition of these vehicles underscores Mangaluru Airport’s ongoing commitment to safety, sustainability, and international operational standards.
