Man Arrested with Drugs in Puttur
Puttur: Police arrested a man after drugs were found in his possession at Panjala in Uppinangady village of Puttur.
The police seized 2.16 grams of MDMA worth Rs 3,000. They also confiscated an iPhone worth Rs 45,000 and a Samsung keypad mobile phone worth Rs 1,000. The total value of the seized items is about Rs 49,000.
The accused has been identified as Yahya, a 48-year-old resident of Kokkada.
According to the police, officers were on routine rounds in Panjala when they noticed Yahya behaving suspiciously. During questioning, he admitted that he was carrying MDMA.

Uppinangady police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and are continuing the investigation.

Three More Arrested in Major Ganja Seizure Case in Puttur
Puttur: Police have arrested three more accused in connection with a large ganja seizure reported in Puttur. The arrests were made by the Puttur Rural Police as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case dates back to three weeks ago, when police seized 1 quintal 6 kg 50 grams of ganja worth ₹53.03 lakh. Two accused were arrested at that time for transporting the drugs in a car and another vehicle.
The newly arrested accused have been identified as Mohammed Fayaz D.K. (27), a resident of Charmadi; Nazir (42), a resident of Kakkinje in Belthangady; and Deepak Patra (37) from Odisha. Police said Fayaz and Nazir arranged money and vehicles for the operation, while Deepak Patra supplied the ganja from Odisha.
The investigation team, led by Puttur Sub-Division DYSP Pramod Kumar, arrested the accused in Odisha. Police also seized 1 kg 788 grams of ganja worth ₹80,000 from them.
The operation was carried out with the help of Puttur Rural Police Sub-Inspector Gunapala J. and his team.

Earlier, on January 19, police were conducting vehicle checks at Sajankadi in Paduvannur village of Puttur taluk. During the inspection, they intercepted vehicles carrying ganja and arrested Rafeeq P. (37) and Abdul Sadiq, both residents of Charmadi in Belthangady taluk.
With the latest arrests, the police have expanded the investigation and are continuing efforts to identify others involved in the drug network.

Truck Overturns After Driver Loses Control in Puttur; Electric Pole Damaged
Puttur: A truck overturned after the driver lost control at Urlandy on the Puttur bypass road late last night.
The goods-laden truck, registered in Tamil Nadu, was traveling from Mangaluru towards Madikeri. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the bypass road. The truck first crashed into a roadside barrier and then hit a nearby electric pole, causing damage.

Due to the impact of the accident, the goods carried in the truck were scattered across the road. Authorities cleared the truck from the road overnight. Vehicle movement was later restored, and traffic returned to normal.

A car caught fire after crashing into a roadside drain near Puttur
Puttur: The accident happened near Kanchana Cross close to Neerkatte on National Highway 75. The car lost control and hit a drain built for the new highway construction.
The car was traveling from Hassan towards Uppinangady. The driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle moved to the opposite side before the crash.
A young man and a young woman were inside the car. They quickly jumped out after noticing the fire. This helped them escape a major danger.
Both suffered minor injuries but are safe. There was no loss of life.

Fire and emergency personnel from Puttur reached the spot and put out the fire. However, the front part of the car was completely burnt.
Four-lane highway construction work is currently going on in the area. Vehicles are allowed to use only the old highway at present.
