Man Arrested for Gold Chain Theft in Kota; Jewellery Recovered by Police
Kundapur: Kota police have cracked a gold chain theft case reported from Yadadi Mathyadi village, successfully recovering the stolen jewellery and arresting the suspect involved.
The accused has been identified as Anand (26), son of Subrahmanya Bhovi, a resident of Kamalamma House, near Shiriya Anganwadi, Guddattu Ganapati Temple Road, Shiriya Village, Brahmavar.
According to the complaint filed by Basava Poojari (72), a resident of Yadadi Mathyadi in Kundapur, the theft occurred sometime between 7:00 PM on September 26 and 9:00 AM on September 27. An 18-gram gold chain, valued at approximately ₹1,45,000, was reported missing from a Godrej cupboard inside his home.
Following the complaint, a case was registered at Kota Police Station. Acting swiftly, a team led by PSI Praveen Kumar R and PSI Sudha Prabhu, along with other police staff, initiated an investigation.
The efforts of the investigating team led to the arrest of Anand, from whom the stolen gold chain was recovered.
Police confirmed that further legal procedures are underway, and the accused is being questioned for any potential involvement in other similar cases.

Accused Absconding for 10 Years Arrested by Kundapur Rural Police
Kundapur: The Kundapur Rural Police Station have arrested a man who had been absconding for the past 10 years in connection with a criminal case registered within their jurisdiction.
The accused, identified as Shashikanth Shetty (44), had been on the run for a decade after allegedly being involved in an offence reported in the Kundapur rural limits. Acting on credible information, a special team led by ASI Shankar S and Constable Ashok Shetty traced the accused to Baninathpur in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
He was subsequently secured and brought back to Karnataka. The accused was produced before the ACJ and JMFC Court in Kundapur. The court has remanded him to judicial custody, following which he was lodged at the district prison in Hiriyadka.

The police have confirmed that further legal proceedings in the case will continue as per due process of law.

Two Men Get 5-Year Jail Term for Sexual Harassment of Schoolgirl
Kundapur: A POCSO court in Udupi district has sentenced two men to five years in prison for sexually harassing a schoolgirl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each accused. If they fail to pay the fine, they will have to serve an additional five months in jail.
The convicted men are Sharath Shetty, 32, an auto-rickshaw driver, and his friend Prashanth Nayak, 28.
The incident took place on July 15 last year within the limits of the Amasebailu police station. The accused allegedly took the schoolgirl in an auto-rickshaw from her school. They stopped the vehicle near the Amasebailu junction and committed the offence.
The distressed girl later informed her school teacher about the incident. The teacher then filed a complaint at the Amasebailu police station. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Kundapur DYSP H.D. Kulkarni conducted the investigation and submitted the charge sheet against the accused.
Advocates Prakash Chandra Shetty, Jayaram Shetty, and Y.T. Raghavendra represented the victim in court.

A moving car caught fire in Kundapura on Saturday morning and was completely destroyed.
Kundapura: The incident happened near Sharke Cross in Vandse village on the Hemmadi–Kollur State Highway in Udupi district. The car belonged to Bhaskar Achar, a resident of Beejadi.
Bhaskar Achar was traveling to Kundapura after finishing his work in Aloor. At around 10 a.m., he noticed smoke and heard a sound coming from the front of the car. He quickly understood that something was wrong.
He immediately stopped the car on the roadside and got out. Within a short time, the fire became stronger and spread through the vehicle.

Local people tried to put out the fire, but they could not control it. The car was fully burned within a short time.
Luckily, Bhaskar Achar escaped in time and was safe. No injuries were reported.
