Malabar Gold Distributes Scholarships worth Rs 47.64 Lakh in Mangaluru

Mangaluru : Malabar Gold & Diamonds distributed scholarships worth Rs 47.64 lakh to 586 girl students from 70 government and aided colleges in Dakshina Kannada district. The programme was held on Thursday at Mangaluru Town Hall. The event was organised by Malabar Charitable Trust.

MLA Umanath Kotian inaugurated the programme. He said Malabar Gold and Diamonds is doing good social service by supporting education for girl students every year. He also praised the company for spending 5 percent of its profit on CSR activities. He said most companies spend only 2 percent for CSR work.

Chief guest Mamatha Gatti also spoke at the event. She said helping women in education is a great service. She appreciated the organisation for supporting the future of young girls.

Hafeez Rehman, head of the Mangaluru branch of Malabar Gold & Diamonds, welcomed the gathering. He said the Malabar Charitable Trust was established in 1999 as the CSR wing of the Malabar Group. He said the group spends 5 percent of its net profit on CSR projects in more than 1,500 places across 20 states in India.

He said the organisation has provided more than Rs 388 crore in financial assistance across the country so far. He added that Rs 200 crore has been reserved for CSR activities in 2026-27. He said the trust is focusing on education, health, shelter, environmental protection, poverty eradication and humanitarian support.

During the programme, senior teacher and resource person Siddakatte Narayana Nayak, aged 74, was honoured. Assistant Commissioner Meenakshi Arya, Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association president Pushparaj, cyber security expert Professor Anantha Prabhu and director V. Karunakaran were present at the event.

Painters Escape With Gold Jewellery worth Rs 25 Lakh

Bengaluru: A shocking theft took place in Bengaluru after a group of painters allegedly stole gold jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh from a house.

The incident happened at Ramanjaneya Layout in Dasanapura Hobli. The house belongs to Nithya and Chandrashekhar.

A painter named Lingaraju had approached the family and offered to paint their house at a low cost. He later came with three workers and started the painting work.

While the painters were working inside a bedroom, Nithya stepped out for a few minutes after hearing her child cry. During that short gap, the accused allegedly stole about 254 grams of gold jewellery from a cupboard.

The painters disappeared before completing the work. When the family checked the cupboard, they found the jewellery missing.

The stolen ornaments are estimated to be worth around Rs 25 lakh. A complaint has been filed at the Madanayakanahalli Police Station.

Police have launched a search for Lingaraju and his associates, who are currently absconding.

YouTuber’s Home Tour Made Robber’s Work easy

A YouTuber from Mohani village in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district was robbed of valuables worth up to Rs 10 lakh.

The burglary took place in the early hours of Saturday while the family was asleep. The burglars allegedly locked the family inside a room and escaped with gold and silver jewellery, cash, and other items.

The family discovered the incident after waking up and finding the room locked from outside. Relatives later helped them get out.

Actor Salim Kumar Honoured National Award

Ernakulam: National Award-winning Malayalam actor Salim Kumar was cremated with full state honours at his residence in North Paravur, Ernakulam district, on Sunday.

Family members, film industry colleagues, political leaders, and hundreds of admirers gathered to pay their final respects to the veteran actor.

Salim Kumar passed away on Saturday night at the age of 56. His death has left the Malayalam film industry and his fans in deep sorrow.

His mortal remains were kept at the Paravur Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday to allow the public to pay their last respects. The funeral was held at his residence at 3 p.m.

In an official statement, the Kerala government expressed profound grief over the actor’s passing. The government praised his remarkable contribution to Malayalam cinema and his outstanding performances throughout his career.

Salim Kumar won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his role in Adaminte Makan Abu. He also received the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor for his performance in Achanurangatha Veedu in 2005.

As a mark of respect, the Kerala government arranged police honours during the funeral and bore the expenses related to the funeral and other arrangements.
