Mahakumbh 2025: ₹7,500 Crore Budget, ₹2 Lakh Crore Revenue Expected in 45 Days

Prayagraj: The Mahakumbh 2025, which began on January 13, is set to bring an economic windfall to the region, with revenue projections reaching ₹2 lakh crore over its 45-day duration. The event, expected to draw approximately 450 million devotees, is poised to significantly boost the tourism, hospitality, and trade sectors.
According to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the average spending of ₹5,000 per visitor could easily achieve the projected revenue. A significant portion of this, around ₹40,000 crore, is expected to come from the hospitality sector, including hotels, guesthouses, and lodges.
Helicopter services are also a notable addition this year, projected to generate ₹3.5 crore daily by ferrying 7,000 pilgrims at ₹5,000 per trip.
The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated ₹7,500 crore to organize the grand event, which is a major draw for pilgrims and tourists alike. Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of CAIT, highlighted the wide-ranging economic impact, noting, “The Mahakumbh will generate massive trade activities, with spending on hotels, food, religious items, healthcare, and more exceeding ₹2 lakh crore.”
Key sectors driving this economic surge include the food and beverage industry, estimated to contribute ₹20,000 crore, and religious items such as incense sticks, lamps, and idols, which could add another ₹20,000 crore.
Brands Tap Into Mahakumbh’s Massive Footfall
Major brands have leveraged the massive crowds at Mahakumbh to promote their products and services. Companies such as Dettol, Dabur, Pepsico, Coca-Cola, ITC, and Reliance have set up stalls, resting camps, and promotional displays to engage with pilgrims.
Pepsico, for instance, installed a 30-foot illuminated Mountain Dew bottle to enhance visibility and navigation in the mela area. It also provided 500 charging points sponsored by its energy drink, Sting. Reliance, on the other hand, created ashram-style rest stops for devotees, merging hospitality with brand exposure.
With its scale and economic potential, Mahakumbh 2025 is not just a religious event but a hub for business and trade, leaving a lasting impact on the region’s economy.
