Madhur Bhandarkar to Receive Honors at NYIFF 2025 with Screening of ‘Fashion’

Renowned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar will be honored as the guest of distinction at the 25th New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), featuring a special screening of his celebrated film ‘Fashion’ on March 7, 2025, right before International Women’s Day. The screening will take place at the revered Village East by Angelika theater in Manhattan, New York.

Originally released in 2008, ‘Fashion’ showcased talents such as Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, and Mugdha Godse, offering an intense exploration of the fashion industry’s triumphs and challenges. The film marked a pivotal moment in Indian cinema, garnering numerous accolades, including National Awards for both Priyanka and Kangana.

More than 15 years later, ‘Fashion’ continues to resonate, returning to the big screen as part of NYIFF’s focus on women-centric stories.

Organized by the Indo American Arts Council, NYIFF is recognized as the longest-running Indian film festival in North America, and Bhandarkar’s participation was warmly extended in an invitation.

“To celebrate International Women’s Day, we are thrilled to feature this special screening of ‘Fashion’ as a highlight of the 25th Berlin New York Indian Film Festival,” the invitation stated. “As our esteemed guest, you will be honored with a special award in recognition of your significant contributions to Indian cinema.”

Additionally, ‘Fashion’ will also be re-released in theaters across India as part of PVR INOX’s Women’s Day Film Festival from March 7 to March 13, with the multiplex chain announcing this exciting news via a video message from Madhur Bhandarkar on Instagram.

“‘Fashion’ holds a special place in my heart, and it’s wonderful to see it continuing to connect with audiences even after so many years,” Madhur Bhandarkar expressed. He further praised the National Award-winning performances of Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut, as well as the film’s enduring soundtrack.
