M-4 Rifle Magazines and Grenades Discovered as Joint Operation Enters Third Day in Jammu’s Kathua Amid Fleeing Terrorists

As the extensive search for five Pakistani terrorists in the Hiranagar area of Kathua district reached its third day on Tuesday, security forces uncovered a cache of M-4 rifle magazines, ammunition, food supplies, and clothing that the terrorists abandoned while fleeing the scene. The Rising Star Corps of the Indian Army reported that a joint operation with the J&K Police led to this significant recovery yesterday.

Following the discovery of these items, security forces have intensified their cordon and search operations, indicating that the terrorists were heavily armed. Sources revealed that the tracksuits found at the encounter site in the Saniyal village forest area matched those worn by the three Jaish-e-Mohammad (Kashmir Tigers) terrorists who were killed during an encounter in Doda on June 26 of the previous year. These replicas of Adidas jackets featured thick red stripes similar to those of the deceased terrorists in Doda. Additionally, the terrorists were in possession of a bulletproof vest and several grenades, according to sources.

After a two-day lull, gunfire was reported in the cordoned-off area this morning. Drones and sniffer dogs have been deployed in the ongoing search to capture the terrorists, who are believed to have escaped following a brief exchange of fire on March 23 in Saniyal village.

The five heavily armed terrorists were initially spotted by a local family, whom they reportedly threatened to keep silent about their presence. The terrorists held a woman, her husband, and their daughter hostage but managed to escape with the husband and daughter, both of whom sustained minor injuries.

In a notable achievement, a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday resulted in the recovery of a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, narcotics, and other military supplies in the Sangla Top area of Surankote, located in the bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A defense spokesperson stated that the operation was meticulously planned and executed by security forces following thorough intelligence gathering. The recovered items included various weapons, such as assault rifles and grenades, along with a considerable quantity of ammunition. Moreover, a significant amount of narcotics, suspected to be connected to cross-border smuggling activities, was also confiscated. The recovered war-like stores raise concerns about the ongoing infiltration of arms and drugs into the region.

This successful operation highlights the commitment of security forces to neutralize militant threats and combat cross-border terrorism. Additionally, the seizure of narcotics signifies a crucial blow to the growing illegal drug trade in the area. Investigations are ongoing regarding the seized materials to identify further connections and disrupt supply chains that support terrorism in the region.
