Liam Payne to Feature as a Posthumous Guest Judge in Netflix’s ‘Building The Band’
Liam Payne, who tragically passed away in October 2024 following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, will appear as a guest judge on ‘Building The Band.’
His family, after reviewing the series, has graciously approved featuring him posthumously. A Netflix spokesperson confirmed, “Liam Payne’s family has reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion.”
Filming took place just months before his untimely death, during which Payne actively participated, offering his insights and encouragement to the contestants.
Hosted by AJ McLean of Backstreet Boys fame, ‘Building The Band’ also includes Nicole Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls as a mentor and judge. Additionally, Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child will join as a guest judge alongside Payne.
The competition format distinguishes itself from typical talent shows. Musicians will initially rehearse in isolated booths, hearing only each other without visual contact, and they’ll form bands driven solely by their musical instincts—without knowing how their potential bandmates look or perform until the final reveal.
The objective? To create the next great music band that can captivate audiences and make a lasting impression. Producers promise a captivating mixture of electrifying performances, poignant moments, and fierce competition, culminating in the thrilling moment when the newly formed bands finally meet and perform live.
“What happens when music binds people together before anything else? When style and appearance come into play only at the end? This is what ‘Building The Band’ will explore,” tease the show’s producers in their official synopsis.
Netflix will roll out the series over three weeks, releasing two episodes each Wednesday on July 9, July 16, and July 23. The series is executive produced by Cat Lawson, Alison Holloway, Katrina Morrison, Clara Elliot, and Simon Crossley.
