Language Should Promote Unity, Emphasizes Andhra CM Naidu

Published

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized on Monday that language should not be a source of animosity, advocating for the learning of multiple languages, including Hindi, for effective communication and career opportunities. However, he also highlighted the significance of education in one’s mother tongue.

AP’s Deputy Chief Minister has previously supported Hindi, stating that Tamil films should not be dubbed in Hindi, while also criticizing the Tamil Nadu government’s stance on the issue.

Speaking in the Assembly in Amaravati, Naidu remarked, “Language serves as a medium of communication. Knowledge transcends language. Those who take pride in their mother tongue and study in it are the ones who achieve top positions globally. Learning is simpler when one uses their mother tongue.”

He further encouraged the learning of Hindi, noting that fluency in it would enhance communication in Delhi. He urged individuals to acquire as many languages as possible for their livelihoods, but stressed that this should not come at the expense of their native language. Naidu mentioned that learning languages such as Japanese or German would also facilitate easier travel to those countries. While he refrained from directly criticizing the Tamil Nadu government or the DMK’s position, he stated, “Language is not for hatred. Telugu is our mother tongue, Hindi is the national language, and English is the international language.”

In contrast, actor Pawan Kalyan was more vocal in his critique, pointing out the inconsistency of Tamil Nadu’s opposition to Hindi while simultaneously dubbing Tamil films into Hindi to generate revenue from Hindi-speaking states. His critics highlighted past tweets where he expressed opposition to Hindi imposition, labeling his current stance as a turnaround.

Actor Prakash Raj reminded Pawan Kalyan that opposing Hindi imposition is not equivalent to hating the language; rather, it’s about safeguarding one’s mother tongue and cultural heritage.
