Lady Gaga Enchants as the ‘Lady in Red’ with ‘Abracadabra’

Published

The 2025 Grammy Awards were a memorable occasion for Little Monsters as Lady Gaga took home an award and previewed the music video for her latest single, “Abracadabra.” Although the video didn’t debut during the live show, it premiered during a commercial break. Gaga introduced it with a playful disclaimer: “The category is… dance or die.” Shortly after, both the track and its accompanying music video were released online. With this new single, the pop icon returns to her roots, showcasing her signature punk style with bold hats and edgy outfits. The song is a part of her forthcoming album, “MAYHEM,” and embodies Gaga’s signature maximalism and artistic flair. The music video features a captivating dance battle between light and dark, highlighted by dynamic and precise choreography. With its gothic and baroque aesthetic, the “Abracadabra” video also demonstrates Gaga’s talent for storytelling, which elevates the song’s impact. In the video, she takes on two personas: an innocent dancer in a white costume and a menacing ‘lady in red,’ evoking imagery reminiscent of the ‘red queen’ and ‘white queen’ from “Alice in Wonderland.”

Following its release, “Abracadabra” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart. Given that Billboard’s tracking week runs from Friday to Thursday, the song’s performance was influenced by its Sunday release. Nonetheless, it achieved an impressive debut with 13.7 million official U.S. streams, 1.3 million radio audience impressions, and 10,000 downloads, as reported by Luminate. Additionally, the track entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 29 in its abbreviated first week.

The “Abracadabra” music video premiered during a commercial break on the February 2 Grammy broadcast, where Gaga was present as a nominee for her collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile,” which ultimately won the award. As Gaga prepares for her upcoming album, she articulated her creative process, stating, “The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.” She described her creative journey as akin to a shattered mirror—though it may not fit back together perfectly, it can still result in something beautiful and unique.

The upcoming album will feature 14 tracks, including her recent hits “Disease” and “Abracadabra,” the latter of which reached No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. Also included is her chart-topping collaboration with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile.” The album is produced by Cirkut, Gesaffelstein, and Watt, with Gaga, Andrew Watt, and Michael Polansky serving as executive producers. Look out for “MAYHEM,” which is set to release on March 7.
