Kunal Kamra vs. Shiv Sena: From Comedy to Chaos – Habitat Studio Closes Its Doors!

Published

on

The stand-up comedy scene in Mumbai has faced a significant setback! Habitat Studio, a well-known comedy hub in the city, has announced that it will temporarily shut its doors following a violent incident involving Shiv Sena workers. The unrest stemmed from Kunal Kamra’s latest comedy special, where he humorously criticized Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Habitat Studio expressed, “We are deeply shocked, concerned, and heartbroken by the recent acts of vandalism directed at us. Artists are solely accountable for their perspectives and creative decisions.”

The venue stated that it is closing for now as they contemplate how to uphold free expression while ensuring their safety.

During his performance, Kamra took a jab at the fluctuating political scene in Maharashtra with a parody of the popular song from *Dil To Pagal Hai*: “Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye,” which translates to, “If you see through my eyes, you’ll see a traitor.”

But that wasn’t the end. He also made light of the ongoing reshuffling of political parties in the state, quipping: “Shiv Sena first split from the BJP, then Shiv Sena split from itself. NCP came out of NCP. They gave nine buttons to one voter… everyone got confused.”

Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel did not find this amusing and filed an FIR against Kamra, demanding an apology within two days. He threatened to restrict Kamra’s movements in Mumbai if he did not comply. “If he is seen in public, we will paint his face black,” Patel asserted, also pledging to escalate the issue to the state assembly.

As tensions escalated, Shiv Sena Yuva Sena General Secretary Rahool Kanal and 19 others reportedly invaded Habitat Studio, vandalizing the venue. The police have since registered an FIR against them under several sections of the Maharashtra Police Act and the newly enacted BNS.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has responded to being called a “flop actor” in the upcoming film Welcome to The Jungle. He said the dialogue should be understood as part of the movie and not taken personally.

Speaking at the trailer launch event in Mumbai, Akshay explained that such dialogues are written to suit the story and the character. He said audiences should view them in the context of the film.

“We are not told to use such dialogues as taunts. When you watch a movie, you should understand it according to the character and the story. Thank you for feeling bad about it, but please do not take it so seriously,” Akshay said.

The trailer of Welcome To The Jungle runs for more than four minutes and features a mix of comedy, action, and adventure. Unlike the earlier films in the franchise, the story is set in a jungle.

Akshay plays a struggling actor who is trying to revive his career after a series of unsuccessful films. His fortunes appear to improve when he gets a new film opposite a successful actress, played by Jacqueline Fernandez.
