Kunal Kamra Criticizes T-Series: “Quit Being a Puppet” in Copyright Dispute!
Kamra took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to criticize T-Series, asserting that the copyright claim was unjust. He maintained that his performance did not incorporate the original lyrics or instrumentation of the affected song.
“Hello @TSeries, stop being a stooge. Parody and satire are legally protected under fair use,” Kamra stated. He pointed out that if his video is taken down, it could set a dangerous precedent, potentially jeopardizing the existence of cover songs, dance videos, and other creative works. “Creators, please take note of this,” he added.
He continued, “If you remove this video, you could eliminate every cover song or dance video out there. Just a heads up… pic.twitter.com/Q8HXl1UhMy” — Kunal Kamra (@kunalkamra88) March 26, 2025.
Additionally, he took aim at monopolistic practices, suggesting that large corporations operate similarly to the mafia. “Every monopoly in India is essentially a mafia,” he claimed, encouraging his followers to watch or download his special before it gets taken down. He cheekily concluded his message with, “FYI – T-Series, stay in Tamil Nadu.”
Kamra’s troubles don’t end there. He recently faced backlash over a joke regarding Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, whom he referred to as a ‘gaddar’ (traitor). This comment sparked outrage among political figures, and Shiv Sena workers even vandalized The Habitat comedy club in Mumbai, where Kamra had performed.

Unfazed, Kamra replied with another video that mocked the vandalism, escalating the situation even further. The controversy has drawn attention in the Maharashtra Assembly, where prominent leaders are chiming in. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar noted the public uproar, stating that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had already addressed the matter and assured that legal action would follow.
CM Fadnavis, on his part, adopted a firm stance against Kamra, expressing in the Assembly on Monday, “We appreciate humor and satire. We embrace political satire, but we won’t endorse freedom of expression that leads to tyranny.” He criticized Kamra’s style of comedy, labeling it as “low-quality,” and remarked, “This artist makes provocative statements against the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice, seeking fame through controversy. He has targeted Eknath Shinde with subpar comedy.”
