Mangaluru: Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country on Saturday.

Various organisations and residential complexes in Mangaluru also organised flag-hoisting ceremonies.

The Sai Palace Owners Association of Sai Palace Residency in Ballalbagh celebrated Independence Day with patriotic spirit.

Association President Harish B. Karkera hoisted the national flag. The residents then joined in singing the national anthem.

Association Secretary Raviraj and Treasurer Ravichandran were present at the programme. Other committee members and residents also took part in the celebration.

Mohan Attavar compered the programme, while Janaki led the prayer. Children presented colourful dance performances on the occasion.

Women residents also sang patriotic songs.

The celebrations created a festive and patriotic atmosphere among the residents.

Mangaluru: The Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic spirit in Expert Pre-University College Which is held at Bhagavathi temple Kutakalla hall at Mangaluru.

Karnataka Legislative Council member S. L. Bhoje Gowda hoisted the national flag at Bhagavathi temple Kutakalla hall. He said students should understand the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and make Independence Day meaningful.

He said the youth have an important role in building a better society. He urged students to bring pride to their parents, hometown, language, educational institution and the nation.

Bhoje Gowda appreciated the efforts of Expert Education Institutions President Prof. Narendra L. Nayak. He said Nayak had built the institution through hard work, discipline and dedication.

He urged students to make the best use of the opportunities available to them. He also asked them to respect their teachers and never forget their educational institution.

Referring to D. V. Gundappa, poet Gopalakrishna Adiga, Purandara Dasa and Kanakadasa, he highlighted their contributions to literature and culture. Students also presented songs and verses by the great personalities.

Bhoje Gowda said modern life should not weaken family relationships. He stressed that education should not be limited to academic knowledge. Students should also learn the value of relationships and human values.

The programme was presided over by Prof. Narendra L. Nayak. He advised students to follow discipline in their student life. He also urged them to respect their teachers and friends and become responsible citizens.

Dr. Usha Prabha N. Nayak, Vice-President of Expert Education Institutions, administered the oath to the newly elected student council members for the academic year 2026-27. She encouraged the students to become responsible citizens and build a bright future.

Sairaj Ghogare took charge as the student council president. Priyana Pavan Bekal became the secretary. Shreyas G. and Sadhana Shenai G. were appointed joint secretaries.

Naganandan B. S. took charge as the discipline representative for boys. Shravya Vinayak Kamath took charge as the discipline representative for girls.

Ankush N. Nayak, Director of the Information and Technology Division of Expert Education Institutions, and college Principal Prof. Ramachandra Bhat were present on the occasion.

Students presented patriotic songs and various cultural programmes as part of the celebrations.

Mangaluru: A taluk-level table tennis tournament for pre-university college students was held at the Father Muller Indoor Stadium in Mangaluru.

The tournament was organised jointly by the Department of Pre-University Education, Dakshina Kannada, and Dr. N.S.A.M. Pre-University College, Nantoor.

The tournament was inaugurated by Prem Nath Shetty, Sports Coordinator of the District Pre-University Colleges.

Speaking on the occasion, Shetty said indoor sports such as table tennis help improve students’ concentration and physical fitness. They also help students develop quick decision-making skills.

He urged parents and educational institutions to encourage students to take part in sports.

Dr. Naveen Shetty, Principal of Dr. N.S.A.M. Pre-University College, presided over the programme.

He said sports are not only about winning or losing. Students should give equal importance to sports along with their studies.

He also encouraged students to develop their sporting skills and showcase their talent at the state and national levels.
