Kiran Rao and her former husband, Aamir Khan, have frequently captured public attention due to their amicable relationship. In a recent interview, Kiran shared an anecdote about her parents’ shock when she expressed her desire to marry Aamir.

In her conversation with news agency ANI, Kiran revealed her parents’ astonishment upon learning of her decision to tie the knot with Aamir Khan. “It took them by surprise. They were concerned because they saw a lot of potential in me. They worried that I might be overshadowed by Aamir’s well-known persona. Marrying someone as famous as him often means losing a part of your own identity, and it took me a considerable amount of time to regain my voice,” she explained.

She emphasized that Aamir never attempted to stifle her individuality, always offering his full support. “Aamir has never imposed expectations on me. He has embraced me for who I am, which is one of his greatest qualities. His family is extremely supportive as well.”

Kiran has openly recognized that many people attribute her success to Aamir Khan. During a conversation with Kareena Kapoor on her chat show, she noted, “I understand why this happens. Aamir is renowned for his exceptional work, so it’s a natural assumption. Personally, I credit a lot of my achievements to having a supportive, intellectually compatible partner who encourages everything I pursue. While he has played a role in my life, I think it’s important for others to see my accomplishments as my own, not solely as a reflection of his influence—something many women experience.”

Kiran and Aamir were married in December 2005, spending over 16 years together and welcoming their son, Azad, in 2011 through surrogacy. The couple announced their divorce in 2021.
