KIPG Boosts Our Competitiveness: Insights from Paris Paralympics Gold Medalist Harvinder

Published

on

Harvinder Singh, the gold medalist archer from the Paris Paralympics, is eagerly anticipating the upcoming second edition of the Khelo India Para Games (KIPG 2025), which kicks off on Thursday. The 34-year-old archer believes that KIPG has raised the bar for competitive standards and serves as a significant platform for young talent to shine.

Harvinder commended the format and selection criteria of the Khelo India Para Games, explaining how it enhances the performance of para-athletes throughout India.

“The top 16 athletes at the national level are chosen to compete in the Khelo India Para Games. This motivates all athletes to strive for medals at the national stage. Those who don’t secure a medal aim to finish within the top 16 to qualify for the KIPG. Such procedures inspire athletes to realize their full potential. As this is the second edition of KIPG 2025, it’s uplifting to witness the growth of para sports in India,” Harvinder stated, as reported by SAI media.

Harvinder topped the rankings in the inaugural Khelo India Para Games held in December 2023 and subsequently secured a gold medal. Following his outstanding performance, he became a double Olympic medalist in Paris last year, clinching gold in the individual recurve open event, where he previously won bronze at the Tokyo Paralympics.

Now, Harvinder is looking forward to once again participating in KIPG 2025. He detailed how the tournament sets a new standard for sporting events in India.

“I was thrilled to compete in a tournament of this caliber. When I participated in KIPG last time, it felt like an international event. The organization, schedule, and arrangements were of the highest quality. I realized then that India is capable of hosting any international competition. I expect a similar level of excellence this time, and I’m eager to return to the field,” Harvinder remarked.

The recent World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025 in New Delhi underscored the city’s role as a host, with the World Para Athletics Championship also scheduled in the capital for August. Harvinder noted that the rise of domestic tournaments for para-athletes, coupled with government support, has fostered a more inclusive society.

“Government initiatives are focusing more on para sports. There’s also increasing interest from private organizations in supporting para-athletes, leading to a more inclusive society. India is embracing and recognizing para sports and the achievements of our athletes. With growing participation in events like KIPG 2025, it’s clear that India is evolving in the sports sector,” he added.
