Sonalben Patel, a Paralympian from Gujarat, clinched the gold medal in the women’s Class 3 table tennis event on the second-to-last day of the Khelo India Para Games 2025. The 2022 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist demonstrated her dominance with a decisive victory, easily defeating Vidya Kumari from Bihar.

In other table tennis finals held at the Indira Gandhi Stadium complex on Wednesday, surprise victories were recorded by 21-year-old Rishit Nathwani and 14-year-old Deepika Vijaya in the men’s Class 5 and women’s Class 4 categories, respectively.

As Day 7 of KIPG 2025 wrapped up, a total of 178 gold medals had been awarded, with Haryana leading the medal tally by securing 32 golds, while Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh followed with 28 and 22 golds, respectively.

At 37 years old, Sonalben was diagnosed with polio at six months old, impacting both her legs and right arm and resulting in a 90% disability. Nevertheless, she fought her way to a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and defended her gold medal at the Khelo India Para Games, having previously defeated Vidya in the inaugural KIPG in December 2023.

“It feels incredible to not only participate in the Khelo India Para Games 2025 but also to win gold for the second consecutive time. I have never let my disability define me, and I am very proud of my journey,” Sonalben stated to SAI Media on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the powerlifting competition concluded at the Khelo India Para Games 2025, featuring notable performances from past medallists. Over three days of competition, para powerlifting saw four national records shattered by Jaspreet Kaur (45 kg), Manish Kumar (54 kg), Seema Rani (61 kg), and Jhandu Kumar (72 kg).

Pardeep Joon from Haryana, who previously won gold in the inaugural Khelo India Para Games in December 2023, lifted 194 kg in the 107+ kg category to claim his second gold medal. Coming from a humble background, Pardeep began powerlifting in 2021, working diligently to earn a gold medal in both the National Games and the Khelo India Para Games 2023.

Reflecting on his struggles after an injury, Pardeep shared, “I was working on a farm when I sustained an injury that caused nerve damage. Due to a lack of proper treatment, my leg had to be amputated, leaving me depressed for six months.”

However, Pardeep found support from his family and friend Jaideep, who introduced him to powerlifting and provided training, helping him overcome his depression and achieve success in sports.

In addition to Pardeep, Delhi’s Sahista also triumphed in the final day of competition, upgrading her silver medal from last edition to gold this year by lifting 81 kg in the 79 kg category. An infection from an injection during childhood resulted in permanent knee damage for her.

Speaking about her transition to sports, 25-year-old Sahista remarked, “I eventually came to terms with it. At first, I wanted to build biceps, but then I discovered Para powerlifting, which became my goal. Winning gold at the Nationals in Greater Noida and now at Khelo India feels like a significant milestone in my journey. I’m now aiming to become a Paralympian.”

The men’s 107 kg category saw Maharashtra’s Dinesh Bagade, who previously won bronze at the last KIPG, secure a gold medal by lifting 157 kg. Tamil Nadu’s Arunmoli Arunagiri also claimed a gold medal in the women’s 86 kg category with a lift of 80 kg.

Sports: Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has once again grabbed global attention with his massive earnings. Reports suggest that Ronaldo earns around Rs.30 crore from just one 90-minute football match.

The 41-year-old Portuguese star is currently playing for a club in Saudi Arabia. Under his contract, he reportedly earns around Rs.1,700 crore per year. Based on an average of 55 matches a year for both club and country, Ronaldo earns nearly Rs.30 crore for every game he plays.

This means that in just 90 minutes on the football field, Ronaldo earns an amount that is equal to the annual salary expenses of many companies.

Ronaldo’s total net worth is estimated to be more than ₹10,000 crore. He has built this enormous wealth through a football career that has lasted more than two decades. His income also comes from endorsement deals, brand promotions, business investments, and social media activities.

The scale of Ronaldo’s earnings becomes even more striking when compared to an average Indian employee. A person earning Rs.12 lakh per year would need around 2,500 years of work to earn the Rs.30 crore that Ronaldo makes from a single match.
