Amidst this controversy, there are reports indicating that his upcoming Disney+ drama, ‘Knock-Off,’ may be delayed or even canceled. Recent updates suggest that the project’s production has been indefinitely suspended, and it’s rumored that the producers are considering seeking around 18 billion KRW in damages from the actor.

According to media sources, the production team has officially informed cast and crew to cease all filming activities starting April 23, 2025. Additionally, Park Ki-pyo, the CEO of South Korea’s first streetwear brand, Safety Zone Korea, has issued a statement regarding the situation. He noted, “As a company that values youthful energy and innovative branding, we collaborated with Knock-Off on its production. Unfortunately, this unexpected scandal has disrupted the project, which is quite regrettable. We will establish our official position once Disney makes its decision.”

Furthermore, as reported by SPOTV News, the production company is contemplating imposing damages of up to 18 billion KRW on Kim Soo Hyun. This substantial figure is nearly three times the total production cost of the show. However, the exact amount of the penalties has not yet been disclosed. For context, ‘Knock-Off’ had an estimated production budget of 60 billion KRW, with Kim Soo Hyun reportedly earning 9 billion KRW for his role. The decision to take direct action against the actor is unusual; however, experts suggest that the intensity of the controversy surrounding him may prompt companies to pursue this route.

The drama aimed to realistically depict the 1997 financial crisis in South Korea, often referred to as the IMF crisis. In the series, Soo Hyun was cast in the role of Kim Sung Joon, a determined man who becomes involved in the counterfeit market amid the economic turmoil of the 20th century. He quickly ascends to prominence in the counterfeit goods industry. Joining him in the cast is Jo Bo Ah, known for her roles in ‘Destined with You’ and ‘Tale of the Nine-Tailed,’ who plays Kim Sung Joon’s first love, a dedicated customs officer.
