The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), operating under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), successfully hosted a national-level exhibition during the Mahakumbh, which took place from January 14 to February 27, 2025. This event achieved remarkable success, generating historic sales of Khadi products totaling ₹12.02 crore.

Manoj Kumar, the Chairman of KVIC, announced that the exhibition showcased 98 Khadi stalls alongside 54 village industry stalls, resulting in sales comprising ₹9.76 crore in Khadi items and ₹2.26 crore in products from village industries.

In support of the ‘New Khadi for New India’ initiative, Kumar distributed 2,050 bee boxes, honey colonies, and toolkits to 205 beekeepers across six states through a video conference from KVIC’s office in Rajghat, Delhi. Emphasizing the alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to promote the ‘Sweet Revolution’ in rural India, the KVIC has launched the ‘Honey Mission’ aimed at supplying bee colonies and boxes to beekeepers.

While addressing artisans, he recalled PM Modi’s call for a ‘Sweet Revolution’ during his visit to Deesa in Banaskantha, Gujarat, in 2016, alongside the ‘White Revolution.’ Taking inspiration from this vision, KVIC initiated the ‘Honey Mission’ in 2017, benefiting over 20,000 individuals with the distribution of 200,000 bee boxes and colonies to date.

Kumar highlighted the significant progress in the Khadi sector over the past decade, noting that sales of Khadi and village industry products have soared fivefold, increasing from ₹31,000 crore to ₹1,55,000 crore. Notably, Khadi garment sales alone have experienced a sixfold growth, climbing from ₹1,081 crore to ₹6,496 crore, and over the last financial year, an impressive 10.17 lakh new jobs were created.
