Kevin De Bruyne Signs with Napoli Following Iconic Manchester City Career
Kevin De Bruyne, one of the standout midfielders of his era, has made a remarkable move to Italian champions Napoli, bringing an illustrious decade at Manchester City to a close. The Belgian star arrives in Italy on a free transfer, opting to continue his Champions League journey rather than accept a lucrative offer from MLS’s Chicago Fire.
In a display of true Neapolitan style, Napoli introduced their new star with a striking computer-generated image of De Bruyne seated on a throne, dressed in royal blue and wearing a crown — fittingly captioned, “King Kev is here.”

The 33-year-old will now work under the guidance of Antonio Conte, the passionate tactician and former Chelsea and Spurs manager, who has recently been appointed as Napoli’s head coach. Together, they aim to build on Napoli’s dramatic Serie A victory last season, where they narrowly outran their fierce competitors in one of the most exhilarating finishes in recent memory.

De Bruyne’s exit from City marks the conclusion of an era. He joined from Wolfsburg in 2015 and became integral to Manchester City’s most prosperous decade, securing 19 major trophies.
Notably, he played a pivotal role in City’s historic Treble-winning season in 2022-23, a feat only previously achieved in English football by Manchester United in 1999.
After his last home match against Bournemouth, the Etihad Stadium erupted in a heartfelt farewell ceremony. “It’s been unbelievable to have the 10 years that I had with everything that happened here,” De Bruyne reflected. “It’s been an incredible journey and a true pleasure.”
“I took pride in working hard to help create something that led to the club’s success. Manchester has been my home and my family’s home for the past 10 years.”
