Karnataka Congress MLA Ravikumar Gowda Claims Rashmika Mandanna “Disrespected Kannada”

Karnataka Congress MLA Ravikumar Gowda Ganiga criticized actress Rashmika Mandanna, claiming she has shown a lack of respect for the Kannada language and culture, asserting that she ought to be “taught a lesson.”

Speaking to the media, he stated, “Rashmika Mandanna began her career with the Kannada film Kirik Party, yet she declined our invitation to the International Film Festival last year. Her response was, ‘I have my house in Hyderabad, I don’t know where Karnataka is, and I don’t have time to attend.’ Despite our efforts—one of our legislative colleagues visited her home 10 to 12 times to invite her—she still refused and has dismissed Kannada, despite her roots in the industry here. Shouldn’t we take action to address this?”

The BJP swiftly condemned the Congress for taking issue with the actress’s remarks, asserting that MLA Ravikumar Gowda must uphold the constitution at all times.

BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar took to X to respond to the controversy, stating, “You can never separate a goon from Rahul’s Congress. This self-important Karnataka MLA from @RahulGandhi’s party wants to ‘teach a lesson’ to an actress. I suggest @DKShivakumar and @siddaramaiah familiarize themselves with the constitution—every citizen, including actresses, has rights, and they should remember that their legislative member has a duty to respect the law and the rights of citizens. If he requires a ‘lesson’ in the constitution, I would be glad to ‘teach’ this goon—free of charge—anytime, anywhere. #KnowTheTruth #TruthAboutCorruptCong.”

Recently, Rashmika sparked controversy with her comments about her connection to Hyderabad at an event, drawing objections from certain pro-Kannada groups. These groups initiated a campaign against her, highlighting her beginnings in the Kannada film industry and criticizing what they see as her disrespectful language regarding Kannada culture.

T A Narayan Gowda, President of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, also weighed in on the matter, issuing a warning to Rashmika.
