Karkala: A road accident occurred on Tuesday when a car travelling from Karkala towards Hebri lost control and crashed into an electric pole.

The injured have been identified as Sadananda Naik, an engineer from the Karkala Panchayat Raj Department, along with his wife and child.

According to reports, Sadananda Naik was driving with his family towards their native place in Chantari, Brahmavar. The accident took place near Mururu in Hirgana village. A cyclist suddenly came in front of the car, causing Naik to lose control and hit the electric pole.

All three were immediately shifted to a private hospital in Karkala for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable.

Karkala: A leopard that strayed close to human habitation near the house of Thimmappa Pujary in Padukuduru, on the Hebri–Karkala border, was captured by the forest department on Thursday and later released safely into the wild.

Residents became alarmed after hearing unusual noises outside the house early in the morning. When they checked from a distance, they spotted the leopard resting near an outhouse and immediately informed the forest officials.

A team from the forest department arrived quickly and began the rescue operation using a cage. The team worked patiently for nearly two hours before successfully trapping the animal without causing any harm. The leopard was then transported to the forest range office.

Officials said the big cat is around three years old. After a routine health check-up, the animal was released into a secure forest zone away from residential areas.

Karkala Range Forest Officer Prabhakar Kulal, deputy range officers Karukar Acharya, Chandrakant Pol, and Rohini, along with forest guards and local villagers, assisted in the rescue operation.

Karkala: A 55-year-old man lost his life after accidentally falling into a well at Santakatte, Moolki in Kalthoor village under Hebri limits on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Babu Naik, a resident of Santakatte. He was a daily wage labourer and a regular devotee at the nearby Katte Ammanavara Temple.

According to reports, there was a power outage in the area on Sunday evening. Babu went to draw water from the well located in front of his house. It is believed that he slipped and fell into the well while fetching water.

Neighbours later found him drowned in the well. Despite efforts to rescue him, he was declared dead.

The Hebri Police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
