Kaleshwaram Project Case: KCR Testifies Before PC Ghosh Commission as KTR Accuses BJP and Congress of a Conspiracy
KCR’s son and BRS Working President KT Rama Rao accused the Congress and BJP of conspiring against his father. He emphasized that the Kaleshwaram project, completed in four years and benefiting 45 lakh acres of agricultural land, is being unjustly criticized for political gain. KTR stated, “The political vendetta by BJP and Congress against him is unwarranted. This monumental project, the largest lift irrigation undertaking in the world, was successfully completed under KCR’s leadership. I believe the commission recognizes the truth of the matter, and KCR will respond accurately to any questions posed.”
He further asserted that the extensive development completed by KCR over his decade in office merits the highest civilian honors. “In the last ten years, no state in India has achieved the level of progress that KCR has brought, from water supply to electricity,” he noted. “If this work had occurred in another country, he would have received significant recognition, potentially even a prestigious award.”
KTR elaborated on the Kaleshwaram project, mentioning it comprises over 100 components, with only two out of 85 pillars in one barrage suffering damage, which he suspects could be the result of sabotage by Congress. He declared that the smear campaign by the BJP and Congress would face strong opposition from the people of Telangana. He expressed hope that the commission and other political factions would understand that KCR and the BRS have not committed any wrongdoing regarding this project.
Prior to KCR, BRS MLA and former Irrigation Minister Harish Rao also appeared before the Ghosh Commission. Additionally, BJP MP Etela Rajender, previously Finance Minister in the BRS government, has testified before the commission.
In related news, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has initiated raids at 12 sites across Hyderabad linked to Nune Sridhar, an executive engineer involved with the Kaleshwaram project. The ACB has filed a disproportionate assets case against Sridhar connected to the irrigation initiative.
