Kadaba: Student sets record by handwriting entire Quran in five years
Kadaba : In an inspiring feat, a student from Markazul Huda Women’s College, Kumbra, has earned admiration after painstakingly handwriting the complete Quran with an ink pen.
The accomplishment belongs to Sajla, a BCom student from Baitadka in Kaniyur village, Kadaba taluk, and daughter of Ismail and Zahra Jasmine. She began the task in January 2021 and, after nearly five years of dedication, brought it to completion in August 2025.
For the manuscript, Sajla selected white, light blue, and light green sheets and wrote with a black ink pen. The handwritten Quran spans 604 pages, weighs 14 kg, and is neatly bound in a protective red-and-gold cover.
“Each page demanded close to four hours of effort. Some days I was able to write two pages, taking almost eight hours. Altogether, I spent 302 days on this journey, investing 2,416 hours of work,” Sajla explained.
The college organised a special event to unveil the handwritten copy, where her achievement was formally recognised. The manuscript was released by Yaseen Sakhafi Al Azhari, a Mudarris from Markaz Knowledge City, Kerala.
Kerala: Former Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga, passed away on Monday morning after suffering a heart attack in Kerala. He was 80 years old.
Odinga had arrived in Kerala for Ayurvedic treatment. He was staying at an Ayurvedic wellness center in Koothattukulam, located in Ernakulam district. The incident occurred while he was taking a morning walk inside the center’s premises.
He suddenly collapsed and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Koothattukulam. However, doctors could not save him, and he was declared dead shortly after.
Sources said Odinga had chosen this center because his daughter had earlier regained her eyesight after treatment at the same hospital.
More details are awaited, and officials are in touch with the Kenyan Embassy to complete further formalities.
Kannur: In a strange incident, a street dog bit an actor while he was performing in a street play about rabies awareness. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The play was organized on October 5 at Kandakky in Kannur. It was meant to spread awareness about rabies. The street play, performed in Malayalam and titled Pekkalam, was held near a library around 7 p.m.
During the performance, sound effects of barking dogs attacking a child were played through loudspeakers. Hearing these sounds, a nearby street dog got scared and ran onto the stage. It then bit the actor, identified as 57-year-old P. Radhakrishnan.
At first, the audience thought it was part of the play. But soon Radhakrishnan revealed that the dog had actually bitten him.
“I was playing the role of a man helping a child attacked by stray dogs. I was holding a stick as part of my act. Suddenly, a dog came from behind and bit my leg. I managed to scare it away before it could bite again,” Radhakrishnan said.
The incident has sparked discussions online about the growing number of stray dogs and the importance of rabies awareness.
Kerala: A tragic incident occurred in Meenakshipuram, Palakkad district, where a four-month-old baby girl suffocated to death while being breastfed.
The deceased infant, Kanishka, was the daughter of Parthipan and Sangeetha. According to reports, the child had been suffering from malnutrition. While the mother was feeding her, the baby suddenly stopped moving. Alarmed, the parents rushed the infant to a nearby hospital.
Doctors, however, declared the child dead on arrival. Medical examination revealed that milk had entered the infant’s throat, causing suffocation.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, this was not the first tragedy for the family. Two years ago, their first child had also died in a similar manner.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death, and further investigation is underway.
