John Abraham: Coping with Geopolitical Anxiety

Published

on

Actor John Abraham is preparing for his upcoming film, ‘The Diplomat’, and he has a deep interest in geopolitics that influenced his choice for this role. However, this strong curiosity can sometimes spiral into an obsession, leading to anxiety and disrupting the body’s cortisol and adrenaline levels.

John has openly acknowledged that he occasionally experiences geopolitical anxiety, akin to environmental anxiety. This is particularly noteworthy for someone like him, renowned for his exceptional fitness.

In a conversation with IANS ahead of the film’s release, he shared his current interest in specific geopolitical events.

John mentioned, “I’m closely following the ongoing situation between Israel and Hamas, as well as the war in Ukraine. I believe Jerusalem is pivotal in the world’s conflicts right now. The clashes surrounding East and West Jerusalem, the wall, the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Wailing Wall, along with the historical context from 1947, the Abraham Accord, and the Balfour Accord all contribute to the global landscape today.”

He expressed that possessing geopolitical knowledge can enhance one’s awareness and improve decision-making skills by fostering informed opinions. “When you have that level of geopolitical understanding, much like my character in ‘The Diplomat’, it can subtly inform your presence, even if you don’t vocalize it. The audience can sense that you are knowledgeable, which adds depth to the portrayal,” he explained.

Recently, following Israel’s airstrikes in Damascus, Syria, John remarked, “Just when Damascus seemed to be stabilizing, what went wrong? I constantly grapple with this geopolitical anxiety; it’s like how some people deal with environmental anxiety. I’m really concerned about what’s transpiring in the world today.”
