IPL 2025: Kohli Endorses Patidar as Future Leader of RCB
Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli has voiced his enthusiastic support for Rajat Patidar, the newly appointed captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Kohli believes Patidar possesses all the essential traits to lead the franchise effectively for the long term.
Patidar steps into the captaincy role following Faf du Plessis’s transition to Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025 season. Kohli, who captained RCB for more than a decade and continues to be the franchise’s emblematic figure, praised the young batsman during the team’s Unbox event on Monday.

“This guy is going to lead you for a long time. He is going to do a fantastic job. He possesses all the necessary traits (for success),” Kohli conveyed to the RCB fans.

Although RCB has yet to secure an IPL title, Kohli remains hopeful about the team’s prospects this season. “It’s incredible to be back. The excitement and joy feel just as they always do. After 18 years here, I deeply cherish RCB. We have a fantastic squad this year, brimming with talent. Personally, I’m really looking forward to this season,” Kohli remarked.
This will mark Kohli’s first IPL after retiring from T20 International cricket. Patidar, an integral player for RCB and a member of the Indian national team, expressed his gratitude for the chance to lead.
“Legends like Virat bhai, AB de Villiers, and Chris Gayle have donned the RCB colors. I grew up watching them play. From the outset, I’ve held a deep admiration for this franchise. I’m thrilled to take on the new responsibility of leading one of the biggest teams in T20 cricket,” Patidar stated.
