Mangaluru: The South Canara District Central Co-operative Bank (SCDCC Bank) celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm at its headquarters in Kodialbail, Mangaluru.

SCDCC Bank President and Co-operative Ratna Dr. M.N. Rajendra Kumar hoisted the national flag at the bank’s headquarters.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajendra Kumar said the Tricolour is a symbol of peace, unity and courage. He said the national flag flies proudly on Independence Day.

He said everyone must remember the brave freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.

Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Dakshina Kannada, Ramesh H.N., SCDCC Bank Director K. Jairaj B. Rai and Chief Executive Officer K. Gopalakrishna Bhat were present.

Senior and junior officers and staff members from various departments of the bank also took part in the celebration.

Mangaluru: A special Aatid Polabu programme was held at Atmashakti Soudha in Padil, Mangaluru.

The programme was organised by Atmashakti Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited, Mangaluru, as part of the Aati month celebrations.

The event also marked Independence Day celebrations. A felicitation programme was organised to honour a war veteran who had served the nation.

The programme began with the hoisting of the national flag. The participants also sang the national song, Vande Mataram.

War veteran Rajesh was felicitated on the occasion. He expressed his gratitude for the honour.

Cooperative Ratna and society president Chitranjan Bolara praised Rajesh for his service to the nation.

Senior member Umanath Kotekar spoke about the importance of cleanliness.

This was followed by the Aatid Polabu programme. Canara College teacher Tara P, senior traditional healer Kallega Kamala K, bank vice-president Nemiraj P, and Chief Executive Officer Soumya Vijay, among others, were present.

Tara P inaugurated the programme by opening a coconut frond. The dignitaries then lit the traditional lamp.

Tara also spoke about the importance of the Aati month and its traditions.

Senior traditional healer Kallega Kamala K was also honoured during the programme. She was presented with a shawl, turban, fruits, flowers and a memento.

Speaking on the occasion, Chitranjan Bolara said that traditional medicine was slowly disappearing. He praised Kamala for continuing to provide traditional treatment even today.

He said it was a happy occasion for everyone to come together and take part in such a traditional programme.

A special feast featuring traditional Aati delicacies was also served.

The bank staff prepared and brought a variety of traditional dishes. The menu included Arasina Elegate, Bale Elegate, Pongare Elegate, Pathrode, Menthya Ganji, Pundi and Semeda Adye, among other delicacies.

The programme celebrated the rich traditions and food culture of the Aati month.

Mangaluru: Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic spirit at the New Mangalore Port Authority in Panambur on Saturday.

NMPA Vice-Chairperson S. Shanthi hoisted the national flag at the JNC auditorium premises. Before the ceremony, she paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Ullal Srinivasa Mallya, the founder of New Mangalore Port.

The programme began with the singing of Vande Mataram. This was followed by the flag-hoisting ceremony and the national anthem.

Personnel from the security wing, fire and rescue services and the NCC unit of Kendriya Vidyalaya took part in a disciplined parade.

In her Independence Day address, S. Shanthi described the day as historic for the country. She remembered all those who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom.

She also highlighted the development of Indian ports and the achievements of New Mangalore Port. She extended her Independence Day greetings to everyone.

NMPA employees and officials who had made notable contributions were honoured during the programme. Prizes were also distributed to schoolchildren who won various competitions.

Students of Panambur School presented a cultural programme. Several officials, employees and dignitaries, including Ganapathi Subramanian, Ravindra and Raghavan, were present.
