India’s Got Latent: Supreme Court Responds to YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani’s Petition Challenging FIRs

Published

on

The Supreme Court issued a notice on Friday regarding a petition from YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, who is seeking to either cancel or transfer an FIR registered against him in Guwahati to Mumbai, related to the show India’s Got Latent. A bench comprised of Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotishwar Singh directed the states of Maharashtra and Assam to respond to Chanchlani’s request, linking it with a similar petition from fellow YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia.

Chanchlani’s petition seeks either to quash the FIR or have it moved to Mumbai, as it pertains to allegations of promoting obscenity on the show. Notably, Chanchlani is mentioned alongside Allahabadia, who is identified as the primary accused in the FIR lodged in Assam.

The Gauhati High Court recently granted Chanchlani pre-arrest bail and instructed him to report to investigating officers within ten days.

On February 18, the Supreme Court criticized Allahabadia for his inappropriate remarks during his appearance on the show, labeling them as “dirty and perverted,” while also granting him protection from arrest. Earlier, on February 11, Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that the Guwahati Police had filed FIRs against several YouTubers and social media influencers, including Allahabadia, Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija, for their involvement in promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit discussions on India’s Got Latent. FIRs related to this case have been lodged in both Mumbai and Guwahati.

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has responded to being called a “flop actor” in the upcoming film Welcome to The Jungle. He said the dialogue should be understood as part of the movie and not taken personally.

Speaking at the trailer launch event in Mumbai, Akshay explained that such dialogues are written to suit the story and the character. He said audiences should view them in the context of the film.

“We are not told to use such dialogues as taunts. When you watch a movie, you should understand it according to the character and the story. Thank you for feeling bad about it, but please do not take it so seriously,” Akshay said.

The trailer of Welcome To The Jungle runs for more than four minutes and features a mix of comedy, action, and adventure. Unlike the earlier films in the franchise, the story is set in a jungle.

Akshay plays a struggling actor who is trying to revive his career after a series of unsuccessful films. His fortunes appear to improve when he gets a new film opposite a successful actress, played by Jacqueline Fernandez.
