‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy: Ranveer Allahbadia Scheduled to Meet Assam Police Today

YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia is scheduled to meet with the Assam Police in Guwahati on Tuesday regarding his controversial remarks made during the ‘India Got Latent’ show, which have sparked significant backlash against him. A case has been registered against Allahbadia in Guwahati, leading to a summons for his appearance before the authorities.

Last week, the Guwahati Crime Branch also interrogated fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, who has faced scrutiny for his own comments during the same episode of ‘India Got Latent.’ The questioning lasted for several hours after Chanchlani arrived at the Crime Branch office.
“Ashish Chanchlani complied with our inquiry during his interrogation at the Crime Branch. While we may reach out to him again if needed, we currently do not plan to call him back. We are still awaiting responses from others involved in the investigation, and they will soon be issued new summonses,” stated Ankur Jain, the Joint Police Commissioner of Guwahati, to the press.

Following Allahbadia’s contentious remarks on the show, hosted by comedian Samay Raina, Chanchlani was mentioned in the Assam FIR. Allahbadia, known as BeerBiceps, has faced widespread criticism and complaints for his statements regarding parents and sex during the show.

Chanchlani has requested the Guwahati FIR filed at the Cyber Police Station of the Guwahati Police Commissionerate to be quashed. He argued that since the FIR in Maharashtra was filed first, the Guwahati FIR should be transferred to Mumbai. The Guwahati High Court granted him temporary relief regarding his anticipatory bail request on February 18, instructing him to personally appear before the investigating officer within ten days.

Chanchlani’s lawyer emphasized that their client did not make any statements during the show, asserting that the FIR’s accusations primarily targeted the co-accused. The Guwahati Police formally lodged complaints against Chanchlani on February 10 under various legal provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhtia, the Information Technology Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
