Indian-Origin Man Kills Wife, Three Relatives in Georgia
Washington: Four people were killed in a family shooting in Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA.
The accused, Vijay Kumar (51), an Indian-origin man, allegedly shot dead his wife Meemu Dogra (43) and three relatives—Gaurav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38).
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. at a residence on Brooke Ivy Court. The couple’s three children hid in a wardrobe and survived. One child alerted police by calling 911.

Police arrested the accused from a nearby wooded area. Twelve cases, including murder and child cruelty charges, have been registered against him.

7.7-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia, 20 Killed
Indonesia: A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia’s Flores Island early Saturday, killing at least 20 people.
The quake hit at 5:58 a.m. local time at a depth of 10 kilometres. Its epicentre was around 68 kilometres from Ende in East Nusa Tenggara.
Several buildings and homes collapsed or were damaged. Videos showed people running in panic as the ground shook.
A brief tsunami warning was issued, and residents were asked to move to higher ground. The warning was later lifted.

Indonesia is prone to earthquakes because it lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire. In 1992, a major earthquake-triggered tsunami killed around 2,500 people in Flores.

Indian-Origin Student Accused of Killing Mother, Brother after Using ChatGPT
Washington: An Indian-origin student has been arrested in Massachusetts for allegedly killing his mother and younger brother at their home. Police are also investigating whether he used the internet and ChatGPT while planning the killings.
The incident took place on August 11 at a house on Martha Lane in Acton, about 48 km from Boston.
The accused has been identified as Arjun Aravind, a resident of Acton. His mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his younger brother, Siddharth Aravind, 14, were found dead inside the house.
According to police, Arjun allegedly attacked his mother and brother at home. He then fled the area in his mother’s car.
A tutor arrived at the house at around 6:30 pm on the day of the incident. No one answered the door. The tutor then contacted Arjun’s father and informed him about the situation.
The family tried to contact the two victims but could not reach them. They then contacted the Acton Police Department and requested a welfare check.
Police officers reached the house and searched the property. They found Sudha’s body in the basement and Siddharth’s body on the first floor. Both victims had visible injuries.
Police later launched a search for Arjun and the missing car.
Early on August 14, officers found the car in a parking lot in Wayland. Arjun was inside the vehicle and was taken into custody.

During the investigation, police reportedly found evidence that Arjun had used the internet and ChatGPT in connection with the alleged killings.
Arjun is facing two counts of murder along with other charges. He is expected to appear before a local court as the investigation continues.

Explosive Boat Sinks Indian Ship in Red Sea; Crew Safe
New Delhi: An Indian vessel was attacked for the first time in the Red Sea near Yemen’s western coast. The incident marks the first reported attack on an Indian ship in the region.
A boat loaded with explosives rammed the Indian vessel. The impact caused the ship to capsize and sink.
The vessel has been identified as the Indian Mechanised Sailing Vessel (MSV) Faiz Noor Olia. The ship was reportedly unarmed. A total of 14 crew members were on board. They included 13 Indian nationals.
All 14 crew members were rescued safely. The rescue was carried out jointly by the Yemen Navy and the Yemen Coast Guard.
The rescued crew members were taken to the Port of Mocha in Yemen. They are reported to be safe.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
India strongly condemned the attack. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, described it as an unprovoked and inhuman act.
In a post on X, the minister said India strongly condemns the attack on the unarmed Indian vessel. He also expressed relief that all crew members were rescued safely.

Sonowal said the safety of Indian seafarers remains the government’s top priority. He directed the Directorate General of Shipping (DGMA) to coordinate with all concerned departments.
The government has asked officials to ensure the safety of Indian sailors in the region. It has also instructed them to provide all necessary assistance to the rescued crew members.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs thanked the Yemen authorities for their support in the rescue operation. The government appreciated the timely efforts of the Yemen Navy and Coast Guard.
