Aligarh: A 20-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, Badal Babu, was arrested in Pakistan after crossing the border to meet a woman he met on Facebook. He was caught on December 28 in Mandi Bahauddin district, Punjab province, around 240 kilometers from Lahore.

Badal had been friends with a Pakistani woman, Sana Rani, on Facebook for over two years. He went to Pakistan hoping to marry her, but Sana told the police she never planned to marry him.

Back home, Badal’s family is worried and has asked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for help. His mother, Gayatri Devi, said, “We are poor and cannot do anything on our own. Please help us bring him back.”

Badal had been working in Delhi to support his family and last called them in August using a friend’s phone. His family had no idea he would go to Pakistan.

This incident is similar to other cross-border love stories. In 2023, an Indian woman, Anju, went to Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend and converted to Islam. Recently, a Pakistani woman, Seema Haider, entered India with her children to live with her Indian lover, Sachin Meena, whom she met through PUBG.

Badal’s family is now hoping the government will step in to bring him home safely.
