Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the security forces on Saturday for their successful operation in neutralizing 16 Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region. He reiterated the commitment of the Narendra Modi government to eliminate Naxalism before March 31, 2026.
“This is yet another significant blow to Naxalism! Our security agencies have successfully neutralized 16 Naxalites and seized a substantial stockpile of automatic weapons during an operation in Sukma. Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, we are determined to eradicate Naxalism by March 31, 2026,” stated Shah.

He also urged the armed rebels to lay down their weapons, emphasizing that true change can only come through peace and development. “I appeal to those who are armed: weapons and violence will not lead to change; only peace and development can bring about transformation,” he said.

Earlier that day, a joint operation was executed by the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the elite CoBRA unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Gogunda hills near Uppamapalli, within the jurisdiction of the Kerlapal police station.

Two personnel from the DRG sustained minor injuries during the encounter, which resulted in the death of 16 Naxalites. According to officials, around 30-40 insurgents were in the vicinity when the clash occurred, with some managing to escape.

Following the operation, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter site, including AK-47s, SLRs, and INSAS rifles.
