Henna Mehndi: Traditional Art with Cooling and Soothing Benefits
Lifestyle: Henna, popularly known as mehndi in India, has been an important part of weddings and festivals for centuries. Women often decorate their hands with beautiful floral and artistic designs during special occasions.
Mehndi is made from the leaves of the henna plant, scientifically known as Lawsonia inermis. The natural dye leaves an orange, brown or reddish stain on the skin. Henna has also been traditionally used for its cooling and soothing properties.
One of the popular beliefs about henna is that it provides a cooling effect. Applying natural henna paste on the hands can give a soothing feeling, especially during hot weather. It is also traditionally believed to help reduce excess heat in the body.
Henna is also known for its traditional antiseptic properties. It has been used in some cultures to soothe minor skin irritation and support the healing of small cuts and wounds. However, these traditional uses should not replace medical treatment for skin infections or serious injuries.
Mehndi is also associated with relaxation. The slow process of applying intricate designs can create a calm and enjoyable experience. The natural fragrance of henna may also add to the relaxing atmosphere.
Henna has a strong connection with Indian weddings and festivals. It is considered a symbol of beauty, happiness and celebration. Bridal mehndi is especially popular and forms an important part of many wedding ceremonies.
Different types of mehndi designs are available today. These include traditional bridal designs, floral patterns, modern designs and tattoo-style art. Customers can choose designs according to their personal preferences and the occasion.

Natural henna is generally considered safer than chemical-based alternatives. However, people should be careful about products sold as “black henna”. Such products may contain chemicals that can cause serious skin reactions.
With its cultural importance, artistic beauty and traditional soothing qualities, mehndi continues to remain popular across India and around the world.

Simple Ways to Keep Your Child’s Tiffin Box Clean
Lifestyle: Keeping a child’s tiffin box clean is important for maintaining good hygiene and preventing the growth of germs. The box should be cleaned every day after use.
Parents should first remove leftover food and wrappers as soon as the child returns home. The tiffin box can then be washed with warm water and mild dishwashing liquid. A soft sponge is best for cleaning the main parts of the box.
Special attention should be given to corners, grooves and other small areas where food particles may remain. A small cleaning brush or an old toothbrush can help reach these difficult spots.
The rubber gasket in the lid should also be removed and washed regularly. Moisture trapped under the seal can lead to mould and unpleasant smells.
After washing, the box should be left open and turned upside down to dry completely. It is better to make sure there is no moisture left before closing and storing it.
For stubborn stains, parents can use a paste made from baking soda and warm water. Baking soda can also help reduce unpleasant odours when left inside a dry tiffin box overnight.

Another option is to soak the box in a diluted vinegar solution to tackle lingering smells. Keeping the clean, open box in direct sunlight for a few hours can also help remove odours naturally.
Regular cleaning and proper drying can help keep a child’s tiffin box fresh, hygienic and ready for daily use.
