Haryana Police Enforce Strong Measures Against Disturbers of Peace and Hate Speech Incidents

Published

on

Over the last decade, the Haryana Police have filed a total of 297 FIRs against individuals who disrupt the peaceful fabric of society, engage in hate speech, and operate hate-mongering social media accounts. During this timeframe, authorities apprehended 472 suspects and successfully removed 502 URLs associated with offensive social media content.

In a statement on Wednesday, Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur shared that the increasing use of technology in today’s evolving landscape comes with both advantages and potential for misuse.

Haryana Police are committed to combating hate speech and ensuring law and order. Through vigilant monitoring and prompt intervention, law enforcement has actively addressed cases of hate speech on various social media platforms. Kapur noted that 87.87 percent of the 297 cases registered in this realm over the past decade have been resolved efficiently.

Moreover, the Crime Branch of Haryana Police is specifically monitoring individuals who engage with posts from gangsters on platforms like X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Such posts can mislead vulnerable individuals, particularly youths, enticing them toward criminal activities. The police are identifying these young individuals, reaching out to their families, and providing necessary counseling.

Kapur also highlighted that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been designated as the primary agency for addressing objectionable content on social media within the state. Police officials have been instructed to take proactive measures to prevent the dissemination of irresponsible messages, videos, or any content that could provoke mob violence.

To enhance their efforts, Haryana Police have established a dedicated social media wing within the CID to monitor those disseminating hate speech continuously. This unit has personnel on duty around the clock.

In total, Haryana Police have pinpointed 220 individuals implicated in instigating violence and identified 400 troublemakers. Whenever these individuals update their social media accounts, the content is reviewed, and action is taken as per the regulations if any objectionable or provocative material is found.
